bailed
Just after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Colin Thubron traveled through Central Asia to see the former Soviet stans. Some of the info here is fascinating, but his writing is so meandering and at times absurdly flowery and I just don‘t want to open the book again. I‘ve read over 100 pages set in #Uzbekistan, so even though I‘m bailing, I‘m still counting it for #ReadingAsia2021 since it‘s such a tough country to find.
vivastory I feel like something is afoot here... 4y

Librarybelle I think the dogs agree to bail on the book! 4y

BarbaraBB Uzbekistan is hard indeed. I am going to read a book too about several Stans. I hope it‘s better than yours: (edited) 4y
Sovietistan: A Journey Through Turkmenistan, Kasakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan
Hooked_on_books @BarbaraBB Yes, I‘m going to read that one, too! It actually should be interesting to contrast it with this one, as they were written almost 30 years apart. If I get to the end of the challenge and feel so inclined, I might look for another Uzbekistan option if Sovietistan doesn‘t give me as much of the history as I‘d like, because it seems interesting. 4y
Hooked_on_books @vivastory I assume you mean my silly beasties. 😂 They were begging for dinner, but then right as I was going to snap the picture, there was a chicken kerfuffle outside and Bindi got distracted. There are always interesting things going on here! 4y
BarbaraBB I am very intrigued by Uzbekistan but so far haven‘t found a suitable book for it. I‘m going to use Sovietistan for #Tajikistan probably, a country I didn‘t even find another book! 4y
Megabooks Oh yeah. That‘s definitely the dinner stare! 4y
jenniferw88 There's this one for #uzbekistan @librarybelle @BarbaraBB 4y
