I feel like these don‘t get enough love and attention these days. It‘s been almost twenty years since I read these wonderful novels following the life of pianist Katherine Forrester. They were a Christmas gift from my mother-in-law. I took piano lessons from age 5 to 17 and then studied voice in college so a perfect choice for me. The Small Rain was originally published in 1945, the follow-up, A Severed Wasp, in 1982. Highly recommend.

BarbaraBB Good to know. I have never read her! 2y
BarbaraJean I read these years ago and still think about them from time to time. Maybe it‘s time for a re-read in the new year! 2y
Ruthiella I‘ve only read her most famous book, which I loved as a child 2y

jlhammar @BarbaraJean I wonder if 43 year old me would love them as much as 23 year old me. I‘m not a big re-reader, but I‘d consider revisiting these someday. I have this one on my shelves I still need to get to 2y
jlhammar @BarbaraBB @Ruthiella I also really enjoyed her memoir 2y
BarbaraJean @jlhammar I‘ve wondered that, too—not sure how well they will have aged for me now in my mid-40s! I discovered these two in my early 20s and liked them so much that I picked up and read A Live Coal in the Sea and Love Letters (Small Rain and Severed Wasp were my favorites of those). I also picked up a copy of Certain Women at a library book sale around that time but it‘s been on my TBR all this time. 2y

Pickpick

It took me quite a while to finish this short book, but it was a lovely albeit sometimes depressing read. I really need to read more Madeleine L'Engle! She explores views of God, purpose and love in this book in her characteristic special way of writing.

After another exhausting day, little one and I are finally home, dad and eldest coming on Sunday if all goes well. Grass is wonderful stuff after dry, brown Windhoek... The Small Rain was another Kindle deal buy and I'm liking it so far! Have you read it, @BarbaraJean?

tpixie Oh I love M L‘Engle! 6y
Eggs Love that puffy quilt 6y
Stacy_31 Love your bubble blanket! I've had it in mind to make one for a while, but my sewing skills are pretty nonexistent. 😂😂 6y

MommyWantsToReadHerBook @Stacy_31 thanks, I had someone make it for me before Lira (littlest) was born. So we've been using it for 2.5 years! It's nice for sitting on fairly hard ground or even if you don't want to sit directly on grass. It was a lot of work to make! 6y
BarbaraJean I don‘t know how I never saw this tag! I have read this one, and absolutely loved it. It‘s been YEARS, though—probably was in the early 2000s when I read it. I‘d be interested to re-read! Let me know how you like it! 6y
MommyWantsToReadHerBook @BarbaraJean I love the idea of it, I'm about 30% in and really struggling though. Everyone is so sad at the moment. I think I'll try a lighter read and then come back to it. 6y
BarbaraJean Ohhh, yes, I do remember quite a bit of sadness in this one! From what I remember, a lot of it is semi-autobiographical. I think it eventually gets happier...I think. 😬 Really should re-read it one of these days. 6y

I do a photo challenge every day on Facebook. Today‘s topic was: An obsession. I feel like Litsy is the place where I can find support for my little problem.

This does not include the three boxes of books that were delivered today. Or the several boxes in storage. Or the books on the bookshelf. Or the books in the armoire. 😱

The writing on this feels different. I don't know why, maybe because it is old and it's a first novel. But I'm actually struggling a bit.

I knew L'Engle was prolific, but I didn't know HOW prolific and also that she was a Christian. I've decided my goal for the rest of this year is to make my way through all her works. I only own "Wrinkle" so this will be fun!

Dragon I can recommend her journal 8y
DreesReads I had to check--I have read 11 of these. And I loved Camilla--probably when I was in middle school. I bet it's in my garage someplace!!! I will not be revisiting it though--I doubt I would love it now!! 8y
maximoffs @AudreyMorris the list doesn't end here either! She's so prolific 8y

DreesReads I should say I read 11 of her novels--maybe not all here. The Austins series, the Wrinkle in Time series, and then one-offs. She might still have been publishing when I made the switch to Agatha Christie and the classics c8th grade. 8y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk Many Waters is about Meg's twin brothers time traveling back to hang out with Noah pre-flood! 8y
maximoffs @TobeyTheScavengerMonk I've read the whole time quintet! It's just time for a reread! 8y

It's a strange thing, how you can love somebody, how you can be all eaten up inside with needing them--and they simply don't need you. That's all there is to it, and neither of you can do anything about it. And they'll be the same way with someone else, and someone else will be the same way about you and it goes on and on--this desperate need--and only once in a rare million do the same two people need each other.

ultrabookgeek This is so accurate it pains me. 8y
