Jefferson Hinkley is back in the newest thriller in the Dick Francis tradition, this time on a special mission to the United States to investigate a conspiracy involving the biggest horse races in the country. Jeff Hinkley, investigator for the British Horseracing Authority, has been seconded to the US Federal Anti-Corruption in Sports Agency (FACSA) where he has been asked to find a mole in their organizationan informant who is passing on confidential information to those under suspicion in American racing. At the Kentucky Derby, Jeff joins the FACSA team in a raid on a horse trainers barn at Churchill Downs, but the bust is a disaster, and someone ends up dead. Then, on the morning of the Derby itself, three of the most favored horses in the field fall sick. These suspicious events can be no coincidence. In search of answers, Jeff goes undercover as a groom on the backstretch at Belmont Park racetrack in New York. But he discovers far more than he was bargaining for: corrupt individuals who will stop at nothingincluding murderto capture the most elusive prize in world sport, the Triple Crown. Read this between the Derby and the Preakness and really felt like an insider. Very current, topical and interesting behind the scenes action at all three triple crown tracks. The plot was convoluted, and the mysterious mole wasn't too tricky, but it was still worth the ride.

Carousel finished and we're up to the Preakness in the book. Three more horses to go for the center block.

I've read these Dick Francis horse racing books for years. I love them and find the, so interesting. Son Felix is doing a great job continuing his deceased parents' book legacy. This one, brings the MC, to the US and he has to learn racing differences as well as a whole new law enforcement bureaucracy. 🐴

ReadingOver50 Yes, I really liked Dick Francis too. I haven't read anything by his son yet. 8y
Audrey @ReadingOver50 I've been reading them as they came out. They first wrote as a duo (after Dick's wife passed) then Felix wrote solo (titles were Dick Francis's title) then Felix as solo author. It's been an interesting author transition and smartly done by Felix and publisher. It's also a series that I haven't outgrown or wanted to break up with (Janet Evanovich and Carol O'Connell, I'm looking at both of you). 8y
