Palm-Of-The-Hand Stories
Palm-Of-The-Hand Stories | Yasunari Kawabata
5 posts | 4 read | 7 to read
Recipient of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1968, the novelist Yasunari Kawabata felt the essence of his art was to be found not in his longer works but in a series of short stories which he called "Palm-of-the-Hand Stories" written over the span of his career. In them we find loneliness, love, and the passage of time, demonstrating the range and complexity of a true master of short fiction."

Put your soul in the palm of my hand for me to look at, like a crystal jewel. I‘ll sketch it in words.

Pickpick

For the Romanian version of the book, the editors chose 103 stories of the standard collection of 122 written by the author between 1916 and 1964, many of which were translated for the first time in Europe with this occasion. These exquisite tales cover childhood memories, anecdotes, allegories, a dream-reality world, reflecting major themes such as love, solitude, man's relationship with nature, death, old Japanese rituals, war and calamities

Over the course of the past couple years, the right side of my cubicle has accumulated stacks of books from our library‘s Friends bookstore 😆. $1 here and a $1 there eventually goes a long way. So now I‘m hauling many of those books home. This is the first batch from yesterday‘s haul.

Have you read any of these?!
