Miracle's Boys | Jacqueline Woodson
10 posts | 12 read | 9 to read
From a three-time Newbery Honor author, a novel that was awarded the 2001 Coretta Scott King award and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize For Lafayette and his brothers, the challenges of growing up in New York City are compounded by the facts that they've lost their parents and it's up to eldest brother Ty'ree to support the boys, and middle brother Charlie has just returned home from a correctional facility. Lafayette loves his brothers and would do anything if they could face the world as a team. But even though Ty'ree cares, he's just so busy with work and responsibility. And Charlie's changed so much that his former affection for his little brother has turned to open hostility. Now, as Lafayette approaches 13, he needs the guidance and answers only his brothers can give him. The events of one dramatic weekend force the boys to make the choice to be there for each other--to really see each other--or to give in to the pain and problems of every day.

I've spent my day reading Woodson books I have checked out from the library since my husband and nephew are gone for the day. 😁

This is another beautifully written book about three brothers who have to learn to trust each other and take care of each other after the loss of their mom. Loved this one! 💚💜💛

After Brown Girl Dreaming, I really wanted more from Woodson so I found this little gem. It‘s a rather short story that spans only 2 days but once again, she will really make you feel the relationships of the characters and take your heart on a rollercoaster. Both of these I listened to on audio and I highly recommend that as well.

megnews Another Brooklyn is excellent as well. 5y
TheShaggyShepherd @megnews I was really hoping the audiobook was available at the library but it isn‘t right now. 5y

Nothing left to do
When you know that you've been taken
Nothing left to do
When you're begging for a crumb

When you've got to go on waiting
Waiting for the miracle to come🎶

Three brothers - the eldest, a teenager himself, is the legal guardian of the other two. A rare YA novel, are interracial. It explores the relationships between the brothers and how they deal with the loss of their parents and their relationship to each other when the middle brother returns from juvenile detention. I was really moved by the story. #diversebooks #lrcchallenge #authormyage #mmd #backlistnewfavoriteauthor

A little sorbet and a little YA. Loved "brown girl dreaming," and "another Brooklyn," so decided to check out her earlier works. I also think this one was written when Woodson was my age - so will work for #lrc #marchintoreading #eatandread
