I'm a big fan of Riley and am working my way through her books. This wasn't my favourite but was still very enjoyable. The setting was unusual and the continual storyline was different from her usual two handed/historical prequel style which I really love. However I felt the interesting dynamics of a modern family struggling with secrets and prejudice was an interwring vehicle for a story and Rileys excellent prose kept me reading.

I actually bailed when I had 100 pages left but I read enough to count this as read, especially when the story is so weak and predictable. This book is infused with toxic masculinity, toxic marital dynamics, and toxic misogyny. I am very disappointed and just couldn't take it anymore.

I am linking the longer review I wrote on Goodreads, please read it: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2439587262

@Andrew65 I really wouldn't waste my time...

Weaponxgirl I just sent you a friend request on goodreads 6y
TrishB I nearly brought this in charity shop today but thought it looked a little too romantic for me! 6y
ephemeralwaltz @TrishB yeah.. a part from the toxicity it's just sappy for the sake of it. And the story is very bland. And too long. And I'm so mad 😂 6y

TrishB 👍🏻 glad I didn‘t buy!! 6y
Andrew65 Oh no, that is so disappointing and not what we come to expect from Lucinda Riley. Boo! Thanks for the warning. @ephemeralwaltz 6y
Kalalalatja Oh that sounds awful! 6y
ephemeralwaltz @Kalalalatja yes it was :( 6y
ephemeralwaltz @Andrew65 Very :( I can't believe it's the same person writing. 6y
batsy Great review. It sounds like a huge mess of toxic tropes. I hate it when I want to read a book for escapism and then end up being mad, which has happened to me quote a bit 😆 6y
batsy *quite 6y
ephemeralwaltz @batsy thanks! Yes, it's very disappointing :( 6y

Lucinda Riley quickly became one of my favourite authors when I stumbled upon her a couple of years ago. I just become lost in every book of hers I‘ve read.

Lucinda Riley writes some of the #BestRomance in her epic historical novels about headstrong women struggling against and defying societal conventions. I'm especially happy that she decided to write an LGBT+ romance in her latest Seven Sisters novel. This one is still on my TBR.

Opening line: “The house comes into view as I steer the car around the perilous potholes - still not filled in from ten years ago, and growing even deeper, I bump along a little further, then pull to a halt and stare at Pandora, thinking that it‘s really not that pretty, unlike the glossy shots of holiday homes you see on upmarket property websites.” #theolovetree #lucindariley #firstline #openingline #bookgnome #bookcover #panmacmillan

Absolutely adored this book, was quite put off at first with how many pages this book had as usually can't read a book more than 400 pages but wow what an impressive story line! For a split second I thought I was there in Cyprus! Instead of in the UK listening to the howling rain! Haha. Really do recommend this book .. Go out & buy!

MrBook Nice review! Welcome to Litsy 😁👏🏻! We hope you enjoy your stay with the world's best biblio-community 👌🏻. 7y

I got given this book by my gran and I really enjoyed it. I would have finished it much quicker if I didn't have to go to work 🙈 I did find some things frustrating as I would have dealt with things differently but that's due to character flaws notebook flaws! I also preferred the stuff from 10 years ago rather than the modern stuff

It's convenient to have an olive tree in your garden when you are gifted a copy of this book in order to take a picture for Litsy! 😂😍 Can't wait to read this one. Currently enjoying My Brilliant Friend - it's so intense!
