"... A long-lost family heirloom, a young heir falsely accused of murder, a band of smugglers, two utterly delightful Heyer heroines, a taciturn, but highly resourceful older gentleman - all play their parts in a tale funny enough to have you laughing aloud." Publishers WeeklyOne of Heyer's funniest Regency romances, and one of readers' favorites. An impetuous young lady and a fugitive nobleman? When spirited Eustacie stumbles into a band of smugglers, she is delighted to be having an adventure at last. Their leader, young heir Ludovic Lavenham, is in hiding, falsely accused of murder. Pursued by the law, Eustacie and Ludovic find refuge at an unassuming country inn. And the delightfully sensible couple who try to keep them out of trouble...The resourceful Miss Sarah Thane and the clear-thinking Sir Tristram Shield gamely endeavor to prevent Ludovic's arrest and Eustacie's ruin as the four conspire to recover the missing talisman ring that will clear Ludovic's name.WHAT READERS SAY:"A story in the manner of Jane Austen, of domestic comedy and love affairs."Times Literary Supplement"A sparklingly witty book that had me laughing out loud.""A perfect blend of romance, adventure, and, especially, humor. One couple is young and brash and fun, and the other is older and more mature. Seeing the older couple's relationship grow is one of the story's highlights."This is a wonderfully rich novel, full of excellent secondary characters with lots of charm and wit.""Nonstop laughter from cover to cover? probably because there are two heroes and two heroines, and their chemistry with each other is just sparkling!""Hilarious! A hallmark of most of Georgette Heyer's works is her sense of humor? her wit and comedic timing are at their best."

I do love a historical story and this has a pleasant mix of romance and mystery which I really liked. Its a short fun read and has some very amusing moments as well as dramatic ones. I loved Shield and his brooding stand offish nature. PLus Ludovic is so likeable too. The story was interesting and kept my attention until the ending that was really well done and finished the story perfectly.

Another delightful romp from Heyer. This one has more adventure with murders, fights, disguises, smugglers and fugitives so the romance is secondary but it's brilliantly funny and completely diverting.

CindyMyLifeIsLit This was the first Heyer I read, many years ago, and I have been a devoted fan ever since! 5y
LeahBergen I haven‘t read this one yet! And now I‘m feeling Heyer-ish... 🤔 5y

#30junebooks day 7 - #bookstack - This is an old pic (that 5yo is now a 9yo), but it‘s the best bookstack I ever made! I own a LOT of #GeorgetteHeyer books - because she wrote nearly 70, and because I own multiple copies of a few of my favorite titles. 🙂

Have you read Georgette Heyer? If not, I wrote a whole post about why you should give her a try: http://quirkybookworm.blogspot.com/2015/10/31-days-of-book-pics-favorite-author.....

SW-T Yes. I read my first Heyer about three years ago and I‘ve been reading her books ever since! Enjoy her mysteries and romances. Read about twenty now, so still a few to go 🤣 6y
Bklover My mom loved Georgette Heyer. I remember her having a stack of them in her bedside table. I would read them after she finished them. This was a loooong time ago!!!❤️ 6y
BiblioLitten I need a Heyer fix now and then when I get overwhelmed by heavy novels. I haven‘t read one in a while though 6y

Finished this one up late last night. It was my first ever Georgette Heyer and it won't be my last. I usually prefer my romance novels with a little more sex, but this was just so hilarious! There wasn't really a description of the ring, but this image is kind of what I imagined (image from web). #ReadHarder #Published1900to1950

Mehso-so

I haven't read any Regency Romance books before so I had no idea what to expect. It was all very innocent and full of adventure, comedy of manners situations and all matters of silly banter. If I had been expecting steaminess I would be disappointed. For a light and airy historical romp, it was fun.
