Human Family❤

We are more alike, my friends,
than we are unalike.

And when great souls die,
after a period peace blooms,
slowly and always
irregularly. Spaces fill
with a kind of
soothing electric vibration.
Our senses, restored, never
to be the same, whisper to us,
They existed. They existed.
We can be. Be and be
better. For they existed.

—from “Ailey, Baldwin, Floyd, Killens, and Mayfeld” by Maya Angelou

No one, no, nor no one million
ones dare deny me God. I go forth
alone, and stand as ten thousand.
The Divine upon my right
impels me to pull forever
at the latch on Freedom‘s gate.

The Holy Spirit upon my left leads my
feet without ceasing into the camp of the
righteous and into the tents of the free.

Visit us again, Savior.

Your children, burdened with
disbelief, blinded by a patina
of wisdom,
carom down this vale of
fear. We cry for you
although we have lost your name.

Grabbed this one to read today. I love Maya and miss her. She would have something brilliant and insightful to say about the state of our country.

JaclynW I would have loved to hear her insights about current events too. 6y

I have read so much poetry this year, and it feels good to really be exploring the form more. Tagged book is the one I just finished (obviously excellent). Looking forward to reading the rest of this poetry #libraryhaul over the next few days.

LazyDays Yay! I've recently re discovered my love of poetry this year💙💙 6y
