Not Without Laughter | 
pickI enjoy Hughes writing, this is a coming of age story, with a focus on a cast of characters around our main character Sandy.
His aunt who runs away with the circus is of course my favorite, and I liked how there is a conversation around education which feels timeless.

pickI had never read any prose by Langston Hughes before and I‘m very glad I did! This was an incredible very subtle Bildungsroman and I loved aunt hagar particularly. The writing was as gorgeous as I expected from Langston Hughes.

pickI didn't know of the great Langston Hughes until I read about him last year at the American Writers Museum in Chicago. Sad, really. He is primarily known as an American poet. I decided to try out his prose, and began looking for his novels at bookstores. This was his first novel. Wow. I was blown away. This novel is absolutely fantastic, a masterpiece of storytelling in my opinion. I want to read everything he's written.
These are the books #OnTheNightstand but l won't come to them so soon. Most of my next read are on my ereader. There's a few novels l've promised to friends l'll read soon and a couple of Netgalley files l want to read before they expire :)
Here is my January TBR. I know it's a little bit late but that's better than never. Not Without Laughter as been on my TBR list for years (well all of them exactly) son In excited to finally get to it. Giovanni's Room is a back just in case I finish the other books before the end of the month.
