Iris After the Incident
Iris After the Incident | Mina V Esguerra
11 posts | 5 read
Which moment has defined your life so far? Whether she likes it or not, Iris's life has been divided into two: Before the Incident, and After the Incident. Something very private was made very public, and since then life has been about recovering from being shamed, discovering her true friends, and struggling to find a new normal. Two years into this new life and she finally connects with a guy again. He lives in the apartment down the hall, he's hot, and he doesn't look at her that way. He doesn't know what happened. But he also won't give her his name, not right away-which has to mean he's got something to hide too. Iris wants to start over. Should she do that with the only person who will understand, or is this the same idiotic decision that got her in trouble in the first place?

Today‘s #audiowalk was way less slushy and dull thanks to a high of 14°. I celebrated with a 5-mile round trip sans gloves and hat but with jacket, because 14‘s comparatively warm but still not bare arm weather.

And I made a good start on what I think‘ll be a great new book. Mina V Esguerra hasn‘t disappointed me yet.

@minavesguerra is one of my #autobuyauthors! And I know she loves pumpkin soup so here's one of her books with my favorite pumpkin soup in Singapore (because it's served with burnt cheddar on top).

MeganB That looks amazing! Enjoy 😊 8y
Chachic @MeganB I've finished it and it was yummy as usual! But I ordered something else and didn't like it as much 8y
RealLifeReading Ooh where's this pumpkin soup from? I'm intrigued by the cheddar! 8y

Chachic @RealLifeReading It's a resto in Bugis Junction called Platypus. Their pumpkin soup is the only thing I like though.😂 8y
Kimzey Yum! 👅 8y
RealLifeReading Haha I ask as if I can go there this weekend or something 8y
Chachic @Kimzey Yes, it was.😋 8y
Chachic @RealLifeReading Haha you can always keep it in mind for the next time you're in SG.😂 8y
MeganB @Chachic I hate when that happens! But at least to soup was good! 8y
Chachic @MeganB Yeah, it sucks when that happens because the whole dining experience becomes a let down. Next time I'm there, I'll just get the soup! 8y
MeganB Solid plan 👌🏻👌🏻 8y

Happy #InternationalWomensDay!😊 On my blog, I featured books I read in the past year that have awesome female characters. Link: https://chachic.wordpress.com/2017/03/08/2017-international-womens-day/

What are some of the books you've read and loved that have fictional ladies who have shown strength in various ways?

#IWD2017 #romantsy #romanceclass

minavesguerra Thank you!!! 8y
Chachic @minavesguerra Thank YOU for writing Iris! 8y
BookishMe Precious Ramotswe is my role model. Thursday Next and Lizzy Spellman are such spunky women. And the extraordinaire Phyrne Fisher is one sassy Detective! Just realized all are investigators of varying niches - lol 8y

Chachic @BookishMe Thanks for sharing your fave fictional women! I read the first book featuring Precious Ramotswe and Thursday Next but I've forgotten most of the story by now.😂 I think mysteries aren't really my cup of tea. 8y
BookishMe @Chachic some books are forgettable like that, for some ;)) 8y
Chachic @BookishMe Haha yes, we can't all like the same books! 😅😆 8y

A book that starts with a Buffy quote is always going to be a winner ?#romantsy #romanceclass

Xander: You have no shame.
Cordelia: Oh please. Like shame is something to be proud of.
- Buffy the Vampire Slayer, "Earshot"

EloisaJames Great quote too!! 8y
Chachic Ahhh, you're reading Filipino romance! I know @minavesguerra is a huge Buffy fan so maybe that's why she chose that quote. #romanceclass 8y
danistclair @Chachic of course! Love #romanceclass! Thanks for reminding me about the hashtag - I'll edit the main post so that it appears there too! 8y

Chachic Yay! That's good to hear. What romance class titles have you loved?😊 8y
danistclair @Chachic haven't read all of Mina's but loved the ones I've read (OMG the Future Chosen was everything). Really enjoyed Beginner's Guide and All's Fair in Blog and War. Oh, and One Night At the Palace Hotel by Bianca Mori but I'm not sure that's technically romance class? But I haven't read many in the scheme of things so aiming to read more this year. 8y
Chachic @danistclair I haven't read The Future Chosen yet but I have a copy. My first of hers was Fairy Tale Fail and I loved it. Another fave is Learning to Fall because book blogger heroine.💖 I've read Beginner's Guide and All's Fair in Blog and War and enjoyed them. I would recommend Choco Chip Hips, Loveless. Childless. Clueless., and Cover Story Girl 8y
danistclair @ Yes, I love Learning to Fall as well! Thanks for the recs, I'll check them out! 8y
danistclair @Chachic bother, it didn't tag you properly! Anyway, see above comment haha 😁 8y
Chachic Let me know what you think when you get to read them! 8y
minavesguerra Thank you thank you! And I've carried that quote with me for a long time waiting for this book/moment haha 8y
danistclair @Chachic will do! 8y
danistclair @minavesguerra No worries 😊 And thank you, I really enjoyed Iris and am just waiting for Litsy to add The Future Chosen so I can spam everyone with my love for it as well! 8y

I met up with a bunch of romance reader friends, and the first thing we talked about was Iris After The Incident. My two friends who had read it (one of whom teaches romance and popular fiction at university) LOVED it. And in a beautiful coincidence, I had bought them all a print copy of Learning To Fall by @minavesguerra for Christmas. 😊 Ebook: http://amzn.to/2hFNzdC

Chachic Aww sounds like a lovely meet up. And what a great Christmas present! 8y
BookThingo @Chachic They were all bloggers, too, so how could I not? 😊 8y
Chachic I've gifted that to all blogger friends too, some ss ebooks. 8y
minavesguerra Thank you! ❤️😱😭 8y

My weekend read plus scones with cream and TWG's French earl grey tea jelly. Yum! Scones are one of my favorite discoveries in Singapore because they're not common in Manila. Great choice for a snack while reading. Do you snack when you read?

#romantsy #romanceclass #snacktime #bookandtea #Kindle #LitsyFeature #WeNeedDiverseBooks

earlgreyediting That jam sounds amazing! As for snacking, it's less that I snack while reading and more that I read through meals. 8y
Chachic @earlgreyediting It was delicious! First time I bought this tea jelly and I have a feeling I'd buy it again when I finish it off. Oh I do that too, read through meals. 😁 8y
EloisaJames That jam sounds amazing! My brother-in-law makes earl grey madelines which are fantastic. 8y

"For all the stuff I had to let go of, some things I clung to because they helped me cope, kept some part of me intact. Pesto linguini and buttered rolls - that was me. I needed it."

#romantsy #romanceclass #bookandtea #bookandbrew

Thinking of this and what "my things" are. Not specific but I think I'd go with good food (including fine teas) and great books. What are yours?

earlgreyediting I would definitely include tea and books. 8y
Chachic @earlgreyediting I could tell by your username.😉☕ Earl grey is one of my favorite tea flavors! 8y
EloisaJames Chocolate cake, wine, jasmine tea, romances! 8y

Chachic @EloisaJames All good things! I should have mentioned chocolate too. I wonder if you've read Laura Florand's Amour et Chocolat books? Both chocolate AND romance combined in a series.🍰🍫📖 8y
EloisaJames @chachic I love her books! Fab chocolate descriptions and Frenchmen too! 8y
Chachic @EloisaJames Love her books too! 💖 I love her books set in Provence as well. 8y
