Moonlight Over Paris
Moonlight Over Paris: A Novel | Jennifer Robson
38 posts | 22 read | 23 to read
An aristocratic young woman leaves the sheltered world of London to find adventure, passion, and independence in 1920s Paris in this mesmerizing story from the USA Today and internationally bestselling author of Somewhere in France and After the War is Over.Spring, 1924Recovering from a broken wartime engagement and a serious illness that left her near death, Lady Helena Montagu-Douglas-Parr vows that for once she will live life on her own terms. Breaking free from the stifling social constraints of the aristocratic society in which she was raised, she travels to France to stay with her free spirited aunt. For one year, she will simply be Miss Parr. She will explore the picturesque streets of Paris, meet people who know nothing of her pastand pursue her dream of becoming an artist.A few years after the Great Wars end, the City of Light is a bohemian paradise teeming with actors, painters, writers, and a lively coterie of American expatriates who welcome Helena into their romantic and exciting circle. Among them is Sam Howard, an irascible and infuriatingly honest correspondent for the Chicago Tribune. Dangerously attractive and deeply scarred by the horror and carnage of the war, Sam is unlike any man she has ever encountered. He calls her Ellie, sees her as no one has before, and offers her a glimpse of a future that is both irresistible and impossible. As Paris rises phoenix-like from the ashes of the Great War, so too does Helena. Though shes shed her old self, shes still uncertain of what she will become and where she belongs. But is she strong enough to completely let go of the past and follow her heart, no matter where it leads her?Artfully capturing the Lost Generation and their enchanting city, Moonlight Over Paris is the spellbinding story of one young womans journey to find herself, and claim the lifeand loveshe truly wants.

After a brush with death Helena decides it is time to be an active participant in her own life and leaves 1920‘s England for a year in France. She enrolls in an art school, makes true friends, and meets a handsome American journalist. Well-written, light historical fiction, I enjoyed this entire series of loosely connected books.

Feeling pretty meh over my last few reads (including a couple of bails). I'm hoping this will be a nice palate-cleanser before I read my book club selection and then decide if I want to start a new series.

My first historical fiction in what seems like forever and it was a great book to get me back into the genre. I related a lot to Helena and getting to see her journey to become her own woman was written so well. Not to mention Sam! Where can I find my own Sam!! 😍 4/5🌟

Trying something new in June by making myself a TBR pile! I have never actually completed one before and either get distracted by other books or intimidated by how big it is 😱 so fingers crossed that I can finish it 🤞🏻 first up is Moonlight Over Paris 😍

Enjoyed this historical fiction about 1920s Paris as a light story about a woman finding herself and growing into her life as a young artist. Not fantastic fiction, but nothing I have to complain about!

⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

I got about halfway through this book and there was no conflict. The writing was good but the character was just having a lovely time day in, day out. Womp, womp.

Just found the newest Free Little Library in my town and has to be my favorite one of all! Got to talk to the man who made it and he did every inch of this by hand and it even has a little solar light on the inside.

Another lovely read from Robson. While you might see it touted as an historical romance, the love story is secondary to everything else the heroine goes through. Having grown up in sheltered, privileged circumstances, she chooses to break away from everything that's expected of her so she can LIVE. Her privilege does smooth her journey to art school in Paris, but her experience is gloriously 1920s: full of new ideas and unconventional people.

Truth.

Also, I love how the little old terrier here is a treasured family member, not a yappy nuisance to everyone but the older lady he belongs to. So often, fictional small dogs are cast in the worst possible light.

TommieMarie74 That is so true! I hadn‘t really thought about it, but your right. Little fictional dogs get a bad rap. 🤨 7y
xicanti @TommieMarie74 for many years, I had a tiny dog with assorted health problems, and it always breaks my heart to see dogs like him portrayed so poorly. 7y

This book was good! I wasn't as invested in the character of Helena at first as I was in the ladies of the other two books! Of course I got pulled in and I was rooting for Helena to achieve what she had set out to do!! Blob rely series!!

I liked the glimpse of life of the "lost generation" in 1920s Paris. I wasn't as invested in the main characters in this book, as I was with Robson's first book "Somewhere in France".

Brilliantly researched, beautifully written. In post-WWI Paris a lowly American reporter (the heir to a steel magnate) & an English art student (a lady who plans to really live after recovering from illness) bring out the best & worst in each other.
