This was an amazing and inspiration book that was also laugh out loud funny. So worth reading.
This was an amazing and inspiration book that was also laugh out loud funny. So worth reading.
This is a cute book about conquering fears. It has a nice cast of diverse characters and a good message but not a huge amount of story content.
This was a sweet book about a little girls struggle to accept her grandmother, who is culturally different from herself. Worth reading.
This was a funny little book about a little boy who is sure his mother has X-ray vision, so he tests her to see if she really has super abilities. I liked the surprise ending and enjoyed the diverse main characters.
A delightful wordless picture book filled with imagination and diversity. What would you do if another you appeared and beckoned you into another dimension?
This was a beautiful and insightful book full of feeling. I was sucked into the story immediately. The world Jade lives in is compelling and real and made me rage against the injustice she experienced so casually every day. Just an overall worthwhile read.
I loved this book. Such a quick read that had my emotions jumping all over the board.
This an adorable book filled with diverse and realistic characters. I really felt for the main character. Sometimes it is hard to be a quiet kid. Totally worth the read.
A cute little book full of diverse characters and art. What more can you want?
A beautiful little book about imagination and being a creative. I especially appreciated that the little girl was a person of color.
This graphic novel has very simple illustrations but they still get across the essential poignance of the main character‘s childhood struggles. Very good story and very eye opening for those who do not live with deafness.
A richly illustrated and beautiful immigration story. Worth reading even among so many others.
This is a lovely book about the beginnings of having a child. So sweet it made my eyes prickle. I also liked the not typical biracial couple that was depicted.
This was an amazing retelling. There were a few parts where the exposition could have been handled better but overall I loved it. Read it in less than a day and cried at all the right parts.
This story is a sweeping epic fantasy roiling with emotion and meaning. Very worth the read.
A really moving book that covers a lot of different types of struggles. It is pretty deep and not really a happy story. But it is good.
I loved this book. If I could give it a double pick I would. Body positive, diverse illustrations, and all revolving around the touching story of acceptance. Absolutely beautiful and pleasing.
This was an overall exceptional novel worth reading. There were a few bits that bothered me with the writing/ characterization but it is a really engaging story that drags you in.
A really relevant book that talks in depth about how to be culturally effective in every day life and in the work place
This is a story that tries to normalize immigrants and their stories. Since it is about immigrants coming to Australia it may take an older reader to understand some of the vocabulary and place names dropped throughout the story.
A very sweet story about a group of animals who find a lost teddy in the snow. This story is lovely and quiet in its storytelling and would be great to read before bed with your child cuddled in close
This was a silly book but with its funny lyrical storytelling and comical illustrations, kids are sure to crack up over it.
I am not really a short story fan in general. I did like a lot of the stories in this book. They are timely, varied, and make you think. Some though didn‘t catch me as much as others and some I wasn‘t overly fond of the endings.
I really loved this lyrical picture book. The book is so multi cultural, diverse, and inclusive, even including characters with disabilities and how they read.
This is an incredibly important and relevant book. Told in a combination of verse and art, this is a mixed media and non-linear storytelling collage of the experiences and identity of Native American women in today‘s world. Very much worth reading not only for the beauty of their words but also to educate.
This book was almost a so so because it took awhile to catch me and I don‘t know that I got as emotionally involved as I hoped, but the story picked up about half way through and it definitely speaks a truth worth reading.
This was a really sweet story and I appreciated the main character being depicted as a person of color. I was a little disappointed that it wasn‘t an Own Voices book however.
This book effected me deeply. It is so filled with heart and heartbreak. As an adult my heart wrenched at so many parts. And the casual racism and bigotry the main character experiences made me seethe with rage. This is an own voice narrative and it is so important. Everyone should be reading this book.
This book should be taught in schools. Equal parts edifying to the immigrant situation in the US and a sometimes painfully honest portrayal of adolescents that I think anyone whose been there can relate to. This book was very effecting to me and hit close to home on some subjects or high importance in my own life.
This was an achingly beautiful and magical book. The illustrations just sweep you away in the story of a boy trying to follow his grandfathers words. Culture, magic, and love all wrapped together in a beautiful package.
This was a deeply moving verse novel worth reading or listening to through audio book. Sometimes I feel like poems are little drops of truth falling into us like rain drops. This book is so much of this. It has some hard themes and is a lot of sad. But it‘s too good to pass up.
I love verse novels. This one was particularly compelling with blow by blow description that can leave you breathless. I could not be further away from the headspace or a young basketball player but reading this novel I was there, and it made me care in all the right ways. This would be a great book for reluctant readers.
Kinda cute and kinda punny, not the most outstanding story but still not totally a bust.
This was a short but intense read. There‘s a lot going on in the story, covering tough topics like race, sexuality, and mental illness. I really appreciated the main character being bi and the exploration of that. It was very well done.
So relevant. Very real. I loved how this boom sucked me in and made me really see through another‘s eyes. I feel like this book should be taught in school.
This a comical short picture book about a little girl “trying” to give her cat a bath. Pretty amusing if a little lacking in substance.
This is an Own Voices picture book that celebrates the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival, an Asian holiday. This is a sweet little story.
As a librarian, this book was very emotional for me. Such beauty and hope found in and among books. This is a beautiful story of the dreaming of immigrants.
This picture book tackles the injustice of child labor and poverty in a very moving way. It made me cry and broke my heart, but it‘s a boon that is incredibly important, especially in showing a child in very simple terms a very tough topic.
I loved this picture book. We follow Alma as she learns about every part of her name. It reminds you of your history and how where we came from is a part of who we are.
This is the kind of book you read with a lump in your throat the whole time. This is a raw story that begs to be heard and is incredibly relevant. Hard to read but worth it.
I love Richelle Mead books and this was no exception. The Golden Lily series is still supreme ruler of my affections, but this might have been my favorite of the Glittering Court Series
An interesting wordless picture book that shows what can happen when you open your heat to something - or someone.
This book entranced me, even when it felt like I should be disturbed. Broadway intricately weaves a world, society, and religion so well it feels real. The ending was strange, but then, so was the book.
This was a cute story about unexpected friendship and creativity. It was funny but a little empty in content.
This picture book explores the symbiotic relationship between those who build and those who break things down. It does so with simple text and lovely illustrations. This will surely enchant any child with an interest in how things work.
This is a lovely little story about finding interest in something you never gave a chance, it‘s about compromise and, my favorite part, finding a love in reading.
This short picture book tries to grasp at the true importance and use of books. Trouble is, it kind of took a long time to get there and in the mean time illustrated a lot of ways to abuse a book rather than read. I get what they were going for but they could have skipped the whole beginning in my opinion.
This is a delightful book filled with imagination and funny illustrations. Readers can play seek and find with the illusive elephant, giggling over the laughable faces illustrated on the animals. A really fun book overall.
