Restarting an old favorite tonight 😃
"A devotee of Truth may not do anything in deference to convention. He must always hold himself open to correction, and whenever he discovers himself to be wrong, he must confess it at all costs and atone for it."
Excellent writing and imaginative story. Found the pacing to be slightly off and the twist to be a bit excessive, but overall I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
Starting on this overcast day on the shores of Lake Erie with a steaming hot cup of coffee. Seems appropriate.
Not my typical type of book, but overall it was very good. A legitimate tearjerker (even for the soulless crowd). Epilogue was a little too sweet and neat for my taste.
"You were a camera/ Recording reflections you could not fathom./ I made my world perform its utmost for you./ You took it all in with an incredulous joy/ Like a mother handed her new baby/ By the midwife. Your frenzy made me giddy." Ted Hughes is the best.
Have been meaning to read more James Baldwin since devouring his MLK profile a few years back and this novel has exceeded my expectations thus far. Definitely one of the greatest American writers.
"He sets out for the place as an animal might, as though on some fated migration. There is nothing rational about it nor even entirely sane and this is the great attraction." Some of most gorgeous writing I've ever seen between the covers of a book.
