This reminded me of a more adult Maeve Binchey saga. I loved it.

Finally got round to reading this stunner. The characters' intwining stories set in different countries gives the book ambience. The characters' are interesting and the story is relevent today.
An intricate plot connecting a political and a personal storyline. As I've said before I love a female detective and Lena has her own problems to contend with alongside what appears to be unattainable yet crucial information. Good for Nordic noir fans!
I loved the writing but I didn't always feel sympathetic towards the character of Queenie. I think she moaned too much and relied on her friends to sort out her problems for her.
I think a lot of people will recognise their colleagues or acquaintences in Butler's novel about a 30 year old woman stuck in a rut.
This book should be read by everyone who loved reading as a young child, and any parents who love reading to their children today. Nostalgic at the core, the interpretations of children's picture books throughout the ages is a delight.
This is the best book I've read so far this year. Funny, original and heartbreaking all at the same time. I've never read a book like it. Highly, highly recommended!
I love books set in South Asia. The things I loved the most about this novel were the descriptions of the Kashmiri landscape and the variety of character personalities. Religion, wealth, love, loss, and injustice are all important themes.
4 university students stumble across the dying body of a local bar maid. They plead innocence to her murder when she dies, but are treated as suspects by the people around them. It takes over 25 years for the truth to be revealed.
Val McDermid is a fantastic crime author. I love how Scottish she makes the story, from the scenery, weather and food, to the people and their words. I'm looking forward to reading the next in the series.
Nothing like starting a good old Nordic detective series. Detective Frank Frølich is a very likeable character. It reads well as a stand alone despite being number 7 in the original Norwegian version.
Another from the reading list. Thanks @sarauscher
A great read, I didn't guess the twist but some people might!

Absolutely devastating story line, it made me so anxious I couldn't sleep and ended up reading it in a night. But a brilliant novel about the loss of a baby and a controlling partner. Not recommended for new mums for sure...
I love Helene Tursten's Detective Irene series. This book too features a lead female detective, a tough-nut called Embla. Although for once I actually guessed who the killer was, I liked the backdrop of the hunting scenes and forest description. Looking forward to reading the next one in the series.

I've finished my first book from my list of books! It's an in-between pick and so-so for me. Everytime I felt my interest waning there was a new unexpected twist which was great and kept me going. I liked the diving connection too. I guess I'll go for a pick as although the writing style wasn't my kind of thing, the twists were not ones I would've guessed which I always love!
Looking forward to reading this @sarauscher 🥳 #newyearwhodis
I'd give this book 3 *. It started out really well.and I liked the way the author wrote about the individual characters. However, I found the whole Nicholas part absolutely bizarre, there wasn't really any explanation and it came out of nowhere. Lovely prose though.
An unusual subject matter which made this book all the more interesting and enjoyable. Characters you can sympathise with and tragedy for almost all of them. Not your usual 'who dunnit'. Angie Kim has written a real gem of a novel that covers diaspora in the US, family relations, cultural differences and murder.
Magical prose and loved part one. Got a bit post and distracted in parts 2-3...
This book started off with a bang. However, for me, someone who is not usually a reader of horror/fairytale/fantasy genres, it started to go somewhat off track with the exploding rabbits...the author is obviously a skilled writer though and there are some great excerpts of dark humour.
