Spin the Dawn | Elizabeth Lim

Pickpick

Seize the wind,” I whispered. “Don‘t become the kite that never flies.”
🌿
This is a whimsical story with beautiful and diverse folklore at the centre of the book. Spin The Dawn has me enchanted from the very first chapter, from that moment I knew I wouldn‘t want to put this book down and I wasn‘t wrong. I‘m desperate to read the sequel and Edan is my new fictional boyfriend 🌞✨🌕

LibrarianRyan Either yesterday or the day before some twitter complaints started to trend that this book was “abelist“ and I believe a few said racist as well (but please don't quote me on that one). What are your thoughts.

I havent read it yet because my copy is coming in my owlcrate.

kierathedreamer @LibrarianRyan Hi there! After doing some searching on Twitter I can see where people are coming from, I don‘t think the intent of the author was malicious at all though - I definitely don‘t think there was anything racist in the book at all but I can understand why the main character disgusing as brother could be seen as ableist. At the end of the day if a certain community it upset that‘s completely valid - I‘ll just have to do more research 😊 (edited) 5y
LibrarianRyan @kierathedreamer Interesting. Lately these things have been coming out before the book is published so I was interested that it made it through publication. But I find there is always something to complain about in every book. 5y

Wicked Fox | Kat Cho

📚 Currently Reading: Wicked Fox by Kat Cho!
🦊 This book is really cute and fun so far, I love how Korean mythology is woven into the story and how it reminds me of a lot of kdramas I‘ve watched. I‘ve got about 100 pages left so I‘ll see if anything happens to change how I feel about the book, but so far it‘s a ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ book for me.

Eliza and Her Monsters was real, raw and honest. It put into words the feelings that I, and I‘m sure many others, have always had but never been able to voice.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We Hunt the Flame | Hafsah Faizal

This book keeps losing my attention and then regaining it, only to lose it again for some reason. It‘s a shame because I was really anticipating his release, especially since it was inspired by Arabic culture and contained an enemies-to-lovers trope.
🌿 I‘m not sure if I just feel this way because I‘ve gone from a really fast paced book to a slow paced one. The beginning with enjoyable but the beginning is just so slooooow.

Gemina | Arnie Kaufman

I haven‘t really listened to audio books in the past, but yesterday I started listening to the Gemina audiobook because I had an audible trial credit. I‘m really enjoying the book and the experience of listening to a full cast bring things to life. It works so well!
I‘m visiting a friend next week so I‘m hoping this will keep me entertained during my train journeys 😊🌿

Illuminae | Amie Kaufman, Jay Kristoff

🌿 Illuminae is a beautiful and GUT-WRENCHING book. It was the perfect mash-up of sci-fi, horror, comedy and romance. It‘s a novel about what it means to be human, it encompasses what it‘s like to have everything taken away from you, what it‘s like to be broken time and time again, to love, to hope and to have the desperation to survive. I laughed, I cried and the space zombies freaked me out. 🌿

Mehso-so

This book had really good potential, but unfortunately it wasn‘t executed well. The concept was really interesting but it meant that it was difficult to fall for characters or become attached to the romance aspect of it.

🌿 First post, yay! 🌿
My current read is The Beholder, the Fairyloot book of the month for May. I‘m only about a 100 pages in but I‘m enjoying it so far - we‘ll see how I feel when I get further into the book. I must say it is nice to have a ‘lighter‘ read after reading a series of quite heavy, adult books. Also who doesn‘t like fairytale inspired stories?
