"Whatever he believed, he believed. It didn't matter to him whether it was really true or not. He just changed the truth till it fit him. He was a real white man."

"But from there on Howard Givings heard only a welcome, thunderous sea of silence. He had turned off his hearing aid."

One of the smallest, funniest characters I have come across in a while.
This book was slow-moving at page 50 or so, but it picked up. Lots of 1960s drama!
Post-work doings. Enjoying some quiet time in preparation for #ToastingToTexts
And so it begins... || I am excited to start for our book club #ToastingToTexts #ToastingToTextsBookClub
I am in love with this book cover. Her eyes are piercing. Beautiful image.

I was watching a Bible Study on YouTube last night and was very intrigued by the "changing of the guards" a co-worker mentioned to me. It really got me thinking and reignited a fire in me for God's plan in my life. Patience and perseverance. I haven't read anything else this week. But coffee has me focused for work, though. #thecoffeebeanandtealeaf #icedamericano #Godsperfecttiming
I haven't purchased digital books in a very long time, and this one was a must (seeing as I am not a fan of Mass Market paperbacks or series). I am not sure yet how I feel about reading this one, but we shall see.
I love that this is included in the back of the book, along with recipes. Because I am reading this for Book Club and we each prepare a dish, this is definitely giving me inspiration. #recipe #Provencial #ProvenceFrance
Food is truly a way to understand a people. You can understand their pride, history and pain all through food. I am so glad we are having book club this week so we will be able to prepare a few meals. #FoodForThought #FeedYourSoul

Manon demands Perdu to open up and feel. Here, she is asking, thru the Tango, to use the music and dance to express his passion and feelings.
I would like to think a man would want to use his passion for me and let the music and rhythm of the Tango guide his feelings/passion. #TwoToTango
This book is giving me so many suggestions to read for the future, one of them with a very sensual cover. I don't even know where to begin.
As of July 2016, this has been my favorite read of the year (even though I read this December 2015). I haven't read many books, but this takes the cake. So much to think about: what it means to be black in America, what it means to be African in America, how to assimilate in America as an African and what kind of challenges does that bring.
"'Surrender to the treasures of books instead of entering into pointless relationships with men, who neglect you anyway, or going on crazy diets because you're not thin enough for one man and not stupid enough for the next.'"
He felt inexplicably better when he knew that they were well--and in his unassuming way he tried to make a contribution. Books were a means of helping.
