A touching portrayal of what it means to be a woman of faith and culture and what it means to live and try to preserve it in a foreign country. Told through multiple perspectives, it is an engaging read, seeing how one woman perceives the others but that perception doesn't necessarily reflect the real woman. At times heartbreaking, at times uplifting, I believe most, if not all women can relate to this story in some manner.

Encouraged by all the positive reviews I'd read, I picked this one on a whim from the library. Overall, I found the book just ok. Esme and Khai's love story was cute, but there were so many contrived plot devices. I became frustrated by the character's misunderstandings and miscommunications.

This is a great book. The characters of Jo and Bethie are so rich, I really cared for them. I fluctuated between whose story I was more invested in. It kept me engaged from the start. If there was a fault, it's that we spend a lot of time with Jo and Bethie in their younger years, I would like to have had more in their twilight years. As well, as they grew older it seemed as Bethie became a reflection of what was happening in Jo's life.

This book. I am so enamored with it. Shonda Rhimes writes about her decision to spend a year saying "yes" to things (opportunities) that frighten her. I see so much of myself in her at the beginning of this book and have walked away feeling so inspired to have my very own Year of Yes. For anyone who is struggling or in a rut, read this book!

SPOILERS
You've been warned! I can't talk about this book without spoilers. I have complicated feelings about this book. Laurie is too good for Jack. But I couldn't help the warm and fuzzies I got at their perfect rom-com ending. I was thoroughly engaged in Laurie's journey, not so much in Jack's and I did really want to see how this book would end. I mean, I knew how it would end, but I was kinda hoping for a not-so-predictible ending.

I've heard so many pleasant things about this book I was expecting to really enjoy it. And I was in the beginning. Somewhere in the middle it took a turn for me and became a story where every character was behaving horribly and I just could not root for anyone. Luckily for me it took a turn after the mid-point and I was satisfied with the way it came together in the end.

Gloomy day here and being off sick has not helped my mood. It did give me a chance to finish #biglittlelies. I watched the series last year and really enjoyed it. I found the series stays pretty true to the book until the end. I actually preferred the TV show ending to the book! Made me even more excited for season 2!

Ask Again, Yes: A Novel | Mary Beth Keane

The characters were relatable, likeable and compelling. The story was engaging enough that I was eager to see where it went. The struggle for me is that there is something about this book that doesn't quite resonate and I can't explain the why or the what. The best way I can illustrate this is that I finished the book 12 hours ago and I'm struggling to remember how it ended

Purrfectpages I looked through reviews to see if anyone else was as underwhelmed as I was. Most people seem to love it. 5y

The Daughter's Tale: A Novel | Armando Lucas Correa

The Daughter's Tale follows Lina through the course of the war, with a flash forward to her in current day. She is a victim of circumstance, of the decisions the adults in her life make in the name of saving her. As a fan of historical fiction, I truly enjoyed this tale. I was engaged from start to finish, not always sure which direction the book would take, but always up for the journey.

Only Ever Her | Marybeth Mayhew Whalen

Have you ever read a book and when finished thought, what was the point of this? That's how I felt reading this book. Let's start with Annie, the central figure of this book. She is completely unlikeable. She isn't very kind to those closest to her. The resolution is underwhelming and some plot points are completely abandoned. I didn't hated this book. It held my interest, I wanted to find out what happened but the story is completely forgettable.

I wasn't aware that it is a fictionalized account of a true story until the end. I enjoyed the book, but I felt like there was something missing for me. What that something is I can't quite put my finger on.

The Nightingale | Kristin Hannah

I stayed up too late last night, or this morning, finishing The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah. I had too much of an emotional hangover to post about it last night. I'm not going to go into great detail because so many have already read it. This book touched my soul. It's such a special piece of literature. I cared so deeply for the characters and their outcome. I know this one is going to stay with me for awhile.
