Book mail is the best mail! Thanks Harper Collins Canada!

Two must-read books to understand how broken the judicial system is and how the right to a fair trial does not apply if you are not white. The Sun Does Shine chronicles a man who spent 28 years on death row for a crime he didn't commit. Who Do You Serve, Who Do You Protect shines a light on police brutality and makes a great case for #defundthepolice
The best word to describe my reading experience is "unsettling" but I couldn't put this book down! I love a good family drama and this one scratched that itch despite the cringey side-eye I had almost the whole way through.
Clap When You Land is so gorgeously written that I couldn't stop listening. Yahaira and Camino were such wonderfully complete characters and I loved being able to follow their stories as they both experience the death of their father and then learn of each other's existence. Every single word is so carefully placed in such a way that it took my breath away.
Fig and her father are on their own. After having to take care of her eccentric musician father during his "episodes," Fig dives into the world of Van Gogh to try to connect with her father and see the world the way he does. With beautiful writing and an insanely gorgeous cover, this novel approaches difficult subjects such as mental illness is a tactful, age appropriate way and provides much needed LGBTQ representation in middle grade fiction
I'm so attracted to this cover!
Meticulously researched with case studies, this is a fascinating and accessible book about the relationship between mental preparation and performance in the vein of The Power of Habit. Side note: the DJ at Fenway Park may just have the coolest job around.
The blurb on the front cover says that this book is "delightfully odd." I can't think of a better way to describe it. The characters are so interesting and endearing. I will be sad when this one ends.
New reading goal: read a bio for each Canadian Prime Minister. These should get me started! Leave any recommendations for prime ministerial bios below! #canada150 #historybuff #readingchallenges
The Social Network meets The Wire and absolutely riveting from cover to cover!
Due back at the library in 2 days? Challenge accepted! I've always been fascinated by the inner workings of the prison system. This bit of history is sure to be interesting!
Starting the new Lisa Jewell on audio. Haven't read the synopsis or anything. She's an author I will read anything of on the spot.
This was such a beautiful, honest depiction of grief and loneliness. I devoured this book. I wanted to wrap Marin up in a big hug and just tell her "I understand."
As a person being in a relatively new managerial role, this book was extremely helpful to me! It really should be required reading for any and all leaders of people. It has made me take a hard look at myself and seriously consider where my strengths and weaknesses as a leader lie, as well as how I can help my team members develop in ways that are meaningful to them as well as to the company. Very compelling stuff!
This wasn't what I thought it was going to be. Though it was honest and heartfelt, the story was too personal for me to get anything out of and failed to offer the practical suggestions for finding and going after your "Option B" that I was looking for. It was more of a pat on the back saying "what you're going through is normal." Which is fine, and surely can be helpful to many people, it just did not meet my personal expectation of the book was.
(1/2) One day they take you to the top of a very steep ski slope and tell you you'll have great fun if you just follow them. In fact they've only taken you up there because they are excellent skiers and love skiing down very steep slopes...
First book for #deweys24hourreadathon! On Tyranny is essentially a guide for fighting authoritarianism. This is the time for us all to read this book. #activism
The #arc fairy came today and she did not disappoint! I've been waiting for the next Josh Malerman since the moment I put down Bird Box.
Stacks on deck! Prepping for Dewey's 24 Hour Read-a-Thon. I need options! #deweys24hourreadathon
It's finally happened! I've lost track of my inventory committed to memory and bought a second copy of a book I already own, unintentionally. For the record, I LOVED this book! A kind of Chocolat for garden enthusiasts.
When life gives you lemons...
This cover though! Starting (and let's face it, probably finishing) Jeff VanderMeer's latest, Borne.
