Unpopular opinion, I hated this book. Claire is not a strong female protagonist. And I never believed in the love story. Also, not much happened and I never felt like the book was driving in a particular direction. I read the whole thing, hoping for redemption, but there wasn‘t any. I struggled through this and wouldn‘t wish that on anyone else.

Hated that this one also ended on a cliff hanger...but a nice quick read otherwise!

The conclusion to this trilogy was a bit too normal. For books that try and show the dark side of magic, this all wrapped up pretty nicely, which isn't really how I wanted it to end. I wasn't a huge fan of books 2 or 3 in this series, but I would recommend the first one.

I really liked the premise of this book and the scariness of the church of America. But I didn't like Vivian's story or journey throughout the book. I found it uninteresting and at times not very believable. I wanted to like this one, but it didn't work out.

This book and particularly the audio version was painful. The voices detracted so much from the story. At the same time the story seemed so bubblegum pop happy and perfect that was also painful. I've read others of his books and enjoyed them, this one was just too unbelievable for me.

Didn't like this book at all! I love dystopia, sci-fi but this one wasn't a good one. It was overly wordy and used too much slang which made following the story difficult. But then I realized there wasn't much story to follow, almost nothing happened in the first half of the book. The plot came and went without much fanfare or interest. This book really let me down with all its awards and forest reviews. Don't be fooled, this one isn't worth it!

This book was a short and quick read but left me a bit unsure if I enjoyed it or not. It was a pretty simple story with only a small amount of conflict. I guess maybe I wanted things to work out differently in the end and feel like the author just kind of ended it. I don't feel like it was a waste of time to read this, but I'm not sure if it left me with anything.

Not a big fan of this one. Just not a topic I enjoy, I hated all the people that took advantage of the main character which I'm sure is how you're suppose to feel. I think it was well written and got the point across but just not for me!

Although I read this book quickly (2 days), it didn't hold up the whole way through. The set up was great, it felt a bit scary and you just knew something bad was going to happen. Then the bad things happen and it loses its edge. No longer is it a scary story but more of a recovery story.

Maybe I had heard too much hype about this book, but for me it didn't live up to it. I didn't particularly like the characters or find myself interested in their lives. It also was lacking a plot, in my mind. I wanted more story.

My local book club picked this as our read for July. I just started it. Has anyone read this? Will it be good for discussion?

Centered around the death of a newborn, this thriller takes you into the history of a college town and what leads up to this tragic event. You're given just enough information about each character to assume, at some point, each and every one is guilty. Page turner!

A bit of lunchtime reading. This book is moving quickly!

Good start to the weekend!

Although I didn't expect to like this, I really did! First off it is an interesting story but it is told well and in a concise way that makes it a good read. Something I would've never picked up on my own, but our local library trivia picked it for this month. Hoping to watch the movie soon!

Although beautifully written and narrated, I just had a hard time following this audio from the start. I'm not usually someone who would read a memoir, so I thought I'd give it a try. I was quickly reminded why I usually avoid them. Although it did make me intrigued about falconry!

New book for the flight to Hawaii!

Although devastating at times, this was a great read. Pretty quick read for a very heavy subject. Good chunk of recent history in there too that I didn't know much about before reading this.

There were a few too many stories in here, especially in the beginning, that relied on the fantastical side of history. I'm not a huge folklore fan so those didn't appeal to me. But some of the ones that were tied to real events, I loved!

Steamy historical fiction romance that takes you from booming gold rush towns over the Sierras to Tahoe and back to San Francisco. Great nuggets of history and a strong female character!

I really hope part of this story takes place in Oakland!

Wonderful coming of age book that spins up your emotions in every direction. Fans of I'll Give You the Sun will enjoy this one, too. Beautifully written and the audio is narrated by Lin Manual Miranda!

Just received this book as a gift from my parents after they heard about it on America's Test Kitchen!
