This memoir is one you won't want to miss. Be forewarned that this book is not for the faint of heart. In these true stories, it gets extremely brutal and graphic.

There are some edits that could have been made and the writing left a bit to be desired. Regardless, be prepared for a memoir unlike any other you have read. I highly recommend!

While the South struggled to find it‘s way after the war, many lived under oppression and fear.

Shelley's characters are always really likeable. They have good sense and you really root for them. This story is a bit of drama, mystery and romance. If you are a history buff, you will really enjoy the whole story. If you aren‘t, you‘ll still enjoy the storyline and characters.

MrBook Great review 😊👍🏻. 8y

Great story. Not the most amazing writer, but absolutely has something to share. I enjoyed it for what it was and definitely recommend.

Let me start by saying that this is my favorite book I have read this year. After reading about Georgina in Miranda‘s story, A Noble Masquerade, the stage was set. I love how the books run parallel to each other.

Depth is another thing that is not lacking. There are layers to the characters. Yes, it‘s light and fun reading, but there are real life things here and they are all beautifully written. You won‘t be able to put this one down.

MrBook Sounds like a book you may enjoy, @BookBabe . 8y

Overall, a great concept and lots of info here. It‘s a pretty interesting storyline. I know for a lot of readers, it can be a bit graphic at times too. Unfortunately, I did not think that it was well written. I felt like there were so many overkill adjectives, they spoke to each other as you would speak to a child, and it would jump from one person‘s thoughts to someone else‘s and right back again within the same paragraph.

Megabooks Oh I hate that! Swapping in the same paragraph is ridiculous IMO. 8y

Ray and Betty Whipps are true American heroes. When WWII started up, both jumped in to do their parts. Ray fought through France after landing on the beach at Normandy. His account of those horrific months is just right; not too graphic, but enough information.

What a BEAUTIFUL love story and the best memoir I have read in a long time. Their faith and courage are absolutely inspiring. I highly recommend!!
