pickWow, wow, wow. I was IMMERSED in this mystery, thriller sci fi first full length novel. If you like AI, augmented humans, and biotech with strong female leads- you will love it. Explores the idea of rights for robots and at what point will the world fall to its knees without them. Will be watching Divya in the future—thanks to Netgalley!
pickThis novel releases today and I give it a big 5 stars! It reminds me of Victoria Holt in Jamestown. Light on the romance, gives great vibes of New World atmosphere, and light on the romance. All of the tribe names and places are so familiar to me, as I am from the Tidewater area. Loved it!
I listened to this via #NetGalley, and to me it was just too slow, depressing and repetitive. The best part of the experience was Nathan Fillion as narrator. He was very animated, will look for more with his voice. My second hard sci fi that I disliked in 2020.

pickA French chateau would always peak my attention, but this is so much more than a story of a building! The people and times it saw span 3 wars and so many personalities. I loved it! Posted my review at NetGalley- due out in March. Stephanie Dray does not disappoint-
What a fun listen! The story of trying to overcome the cultural divide when trying to create and sell the idea of an American diner in Paris. The pronunciation is a little off, but the snark is excellent.
Wow am I loving this arc from #NetGalley. Its a compilation of stories of each horse either purchased or rescued by a family of rodeo competitors. There are loads of pictures and the writer is great at making each horse an individual. Making me tear up reading how wonderful this farm is to their animals, and how cool to live a life immersed in their daily companionship.
Enjoyed this novella which is first in a series. Many questions and parallels to our world today. Fun Sci fi and a quick read! You can get my review on #Netgalley.

How about this prize I found at the Recycled Reader bookstore here in my little town? It‘s a short mystery that spans Mary Tudor‘s wedding present through the item being lost during Victoria‘s reign. The dialogue is especially interesting to those who know a lot about Victoria and her children, as you get a good idea of their personalities. Very fun!

pickI read this a couple of weeks ago after finding it second hand. It is a fictional story about the wife of a real man who helped translate the first English Bible. It goes along with Tudor history and is another element to all the world changing things that were going on at that time. I loved it.

pickI chose this book to get an overview of the War of the Roses. It has sparked quite an interest for me and is only the beginning! Stormbird does a great job of laying the groundwork with the major characters and a little fiction to speed up and jazz up the story.
I received an advanced copy of Jenny Colgan‘s new novel! I have to get right to it. Her novels always give me a great pick-me-up. I am excited to read about two of my dream destinations-
A Tudor/English stack from my local store, The Recycled Reader. At $1 each, I did a “grab now, see if I want to read it later”!
I kind of know this story from the abbreviated version on her podcast. I love her voice however, and the interesting stories from “Family Secrets” enough to listen to the whole book. What else to do while shredding old tax documents? I want the details!!
Victoria Holt never lets me down! I can always find one I haven‘t read and zoom through it. I was hooked by page 38-
It arrived in time for state lockdown. Despite having one home from college and one from high school, it is quiet here. This gem is slow going due to all the characters and internal thoughts of Cromwell. But because of her writing, I FEEL the tension and the abundance of situations HE has on his plate. Its a chunkster, savoring it.

Finished my first piece of Victorian writing for #Victober. The Prince of Preachers explains theology in easy to understand wording. This is a small booklet, yet holds so much. Look up Charles Spurgeon and read a few of his nuggets of wisdom!
pickLoved listening to Ruth Reichl read this. It was so interesting to hear the behind the scenes look at the magazine business, learn the vocabulary, and learn what sells. Little anecdotes about certain issues were fun, even though I have never read one Gourmet magazine. Food and business go great together.

Wheee! Worth the time rummaging around thrift stores this week for some out if the ordinary choices. I have never even seen that Victoria Holt in book form anywhere. She is always a great in between read for me. A book lover‘s idea of fun-
pickCovering her birth through her titling as queen, it gives the history of Mary Tudor‘s rule and the brief rule of Edward. Hard to find books on that in between part of history. Weir is my favorite for teaching the history and giving the fictional thoughts of the subject as well. This book gave me a greater knowledge of Elizabeth‘s early relationships, vast intelligence, and place within all the other personalities in this time period.
Gonna pause on this book for a while. I like it, it‘s a bit too much about Elizabeth‘s feelings and less about the day to day of her rule. Do you think I need to go to non fiction for that? Any ideas?
pickTook a while to get into the rhythm of this book, but once I started being aware of the dates I caught on. Then I really liked the home life of WW I described in it. Not so much the WWII home life in Britain with the bombings. However I really liked the family and will pick up the next one. Oh fyi it looks like a chunky book, but there is a lot of white space on the pages because of the way the chapters are done- don‘t be intimidated!f

Easy to get through and so imaginative. The flap summary inside doesn‘t do it justiceNow I am on the lookout for more Heinlein asap!
Finished this easily on vacation. It has quite a few recipes I want to try. I just love Hannah‘s town and wish they would do more movies. It‘s so easy to picture their faces during the reading!
Could not get into this and I really wanted to have it under my belt. I have read other Heinlein books and had no problem. There are so many other books, I just couldn‘t put more time toward it. 😩
This was a delightful little book to listen to as it is short and to the point. We get little stories of all the dogs owned by Steele and her family. That is a lot of dogs since I think she had 9 children and they allowed each one to have a dog. Good thing she wrote so many books! What a household that must have been.
pickSomething about the way this book was written made me read it super fast. It was time travel, split personalities, and great futuristic sci fi ideas. Loved it all and thought it would be a great movie!
so-soWas disappointed that I didn‘t like this Timothy Zahn as much as any of the others I have read. This time I got weary of the descriptions of combat and interiors of buildings. I liked the parallel of Thrawn working with either Darth Vader or Anakin Skywalker in two different timelines, but bleh. Had to push through and that‘s not normal for me and a book in the Star Wars cannon.
Finished this earlier in the week after so many suggestions for Willa Cather on The Readers podcast. I loved the writing, the twist at the end, and the length of the book in general. Does anyone have thoughts on the rest of the trilogy? It doesn‘t seem to be about the same characters. Suggestions on other Cather novels??
Finished this audiobook in the amount of time it takes to make one dinner and a cake. The audio made the Japanese words pop. I think Keiko must feel in her convenience store like I do in Target or Barnes and Noble. I really enjoyed this odd little book with a small peek into Japanese life.
If you need to laugh, and I mean laugh hard- you must read this book. It just shows that so much in the human life is the same in the United States. And it makes me think of friends I haven‘t thought of in a ling time. I can‘t wait to read more of her stuff asap, free on Overdrive.
I had to go back to the car and get another dollar to pay for my stack this week at our local “Recycled Reader”. Sometimes you hit the jackpot!
My newest audiobook, I just can‘t believe how fast time is flying while I am painting the porch. Thank you Lord for allowing me to be born in the 20th century. I could never have made it back then. Wearing a fur covering with a fire in the fireplace while in labor in July. Strong chicks! If you have any interest in the Tudor time period, this is for you.
Dani Shapiro has started a podcast called “Family Secrets”. She interviews people with their own unearthed issues within their families and how each guest came about the truth. The idea came for this after her own research about her family that turned into her book “Inheritance “. Each podcast is a different guest yet she is finding they all have similar thoughts on secrets. I highly recommend!
Probably because it was written as told, the action in this book barely stopped. What a testimony to how far we have come in opening our minds. It is unbelievable also to a comfort lover like me that people live in such cold, wild conditions. Heard the suggestion on What Should I Read Next podcast-
pickWow did I receive this book at just the right time. It has added some drama, spice and witty reminders of little children running around. Highly suggested if you like medical dramas and books that you can read really fast. Bumping up my books read in February!
