blurb
Manuela...
Circe | Madeline Miller

Genre: Historical, fantasy fiction
12/05/2021
Circe was an odd character at the beginning of the book and then progressed into the beautiful, infamous woman from Greek mythology. Although Circe made many bad decisions they were entirely human, and it is for that reason that I always found myself agreeing with them. The author definitely took her time creating this inspirational goddess.

Diary of an Oxygen Thief | Patience Smith

Genre: Romantic Memoir
The author writes about how he can't help but hurt innocent girls because he is hurting too. I would describe the author's tone as candid because he tells the story about how he destroys relationships with the utmost amount of honesty. This is seen when he paints a picture of how he gave Penelope, his first love, the keys to destroying his heart and called it love in disguise.

blurb
Manuela...
Handmaid's Tale | Margaret Atwood

11/16-11/20
Genre: Speculative Fiction
The writer of this book loves to talk about the past and includes conversations that the protagonists had in the past. Foreshadowing is a technique that Margaret Atwood used in her writing all the time and she made sure to include a speculative sentence in every chapter. The most common use of figurative language in this story were similes, repetition, aphorism, and metaphors.

Secondborn | Amy A Bartol

10/26-10/30
This book is a science fiction dystopian novel about a hierarchy based on whether a person was born first or second. The protagonist, Roselle, is secondborn and she taught me how to be resilient. Her mom and her brother are both trying to kill her, but despite that she still fights to live and loves them from afar. I chose this novel because I was able to relate to this character since I am the middle child too.

Handmaid's Tale | Margaret Atwood

10/13-10/16
Genre: Speculative fiction
The author makes a great impression of a world that hasn't happened yet. Offred, the protagonist, makes you realize the disadvantages of her world and she teaches you to do better. Through dialogue and personal thought, the Handmaid's Tale teaches you to survive in a system not made for you. I was able to connect with this character through her struggles and I whole-heartedly recommend this novel.

Legend | Marie Lu
Pickpick

09/28-10/1
Genre: Dystopian Young Adult Fiction
I decided on this book because I love dystopian novels. Seeing how the future could possibly look like has always interested me since Divergent. I can't make too many connections to the characters presently, but I love how Day, one of the characters, is breaking social norms. During its time of COVID-19, I can relate to wanting to give people who are close to me cures for the disease.
