Scarlett has never left her tiny island where she lives with her sister and ruthless father. An arranged marriage, a wild sister, and a long dreamt of invitation to the Caraval leads to a dangerous adventure or is it. When Tella is kidnapped by Caraval's mastermind, the line between reality and magic start to blur.
- Like the drama and pace, kept me on my wanting to find out the truth. Fave part was the use of color to describe emotion. 4/5

7.5.22 - Pemba doesn't want to leave Brooklyn. And as soon as she sees her new home, she knows something isn't right. Then the blackouts begin. Something horrible happened all those years ago, and Pemba must uncover the story. There are few ghost stories featuring African-American teens and fewer still that are well written and interesting.
Like the mix of historical fic and ghosts, interesting, quick shorter read for reluctant kiddos 3.5/5

I'll take a psy. thriller any day. #LFL find was interesting. Some good and frustrating twists. Left wanting more but can't put my finger on it ? 3/5

Don't normally dislike the main character of a book 😅 And still found myself weirdly rooting for (maybe not there right term) him. Really enjoyed the dry banter between characters, cringed at points, and finished it satisfied. 4.5/5

Loved it. I had definitely read it before so I'm sure the first read was even better. Had inklings about somethings but couldn't remember the twists. Funny picturing my fave childhood author writing sex scenes, we're all grown up I guess #notthe90s 🤣😅5/5

Good tame YA suspense, thriller. Liked the characters, thought I knew but kept me on my toes. Good quick read. 3.5/5

Ft. Duke and Lily-
The king of the North dies suddenly leaving his Queen in charge, to the dismay of many. A ruling queen, forbidden love, deceit, magic: it has all the makings of an interesting story. However, it took me til chapter 12 to even be remotely interested. It did pick up with some good action and suspense, but I'm not sure it was worth it. 😕 2/5

The past isn't gone...it's deadly. Will survived a childhood so rough, his mind blocked it out almost entirely. Now a psychologist Will helps others dispel fears. But he has no explanation for the increasingly bizarre paranoia affecting his patients.
A supernatural thriller that starts a little slow w/ characters I loved (& hated) right away. Intertwining stories really sold the small isolated town feel, couldn't put the second half down. 3/5

"experimenting on the public was nothing new, only slightly less common than experimenting on servicemen. It all wreaked, harmless or not, and the military even admitted to a lot of it. In these days of "for your own good" militia might, it was even acceptable. People were willing to sacrifice freedom for their country, for their own safety. What they didn't get was that, no matter how good the intentions, too much power always led to corruption."

It's been months since Anna's ghost opened a door to Hell, but Cas can't move on. He knows Anna sacrificed herself so Cas could live-not walk around half dead. Now he sees Anna everywhere: sleep, waking nightmares. But something's wrong.Anna's being tortured. She saved Case more than once, and it's time for him to return the favor.
A little lighter on the ghost hunting and a little heavier on the hero's journey. New characters fit in nicely 3.5/5

Fifteen-year-old Nathaniel Delaney, a newcomer in Cheshunt, senses that something is very wrong and joins forces with a small group of new friends to defeat the age-old evil presence that holds the town in its horrific grip.
I enjoyed the battle between good vs evil, youths vs adults. I would've loved to hear more of the backstory and what led up to this. A little let down on the horror aspect but a good read that keeps you entertained. 3/5

But as I looked at her, I understood that maybe love wasn't something tame that could be controlled. It was a wild thing that might kill you with its claws as easily as its beauty. And it came when it chose, so that sometimes you could as soon choose not to love as not to breathe.

I thought he was probably right about power making people savage, but not about it turning them into animals. Animals are better than people. Humans are the real savages. That's what people don't understand. Those police two bash Danny weren't acting like animals. They were acting like humans.

Alice has quite a story to tell. That's not her real name. She couldn't give you her real name, not after the things she reveals about herself in this book. All of her adventures and the killing. She wouldn't want the police to find her, now would she?
First Laymom novel & color me intrigued over impressed on this one. It's long w/ dragging spots but had me wanting to see how it all would end up. I'd still read another Laymon so we'll see. 2.5/5

Graphic artist Clay Riddell was in the heart of Boston on that brilliant autumn afternoon when hell was unleashed before his eyes. Without warning, carnage and chaos reigned. Ordinary people fell victim to the basest, most animalistic destruction.
And the apocalypse began with the ring of a cell phone...
Cuts straight to the choas & enjoyed the characters. Wanted to know more at end! Lengthy details got me at points but I read a lot of YA🤷🏻‍♀️

Clay didn't know whether to laugh or start crying again. Part of him felt like doing both at the same time. Of course if he did that, they would think he was having hysterics. And of course they would be right.

Caitlin awakes to find herself turned.. Her world turns upside down when she finds herself in a new place that could actually feel like home. But her brother is still out there, and Kyle will stop at nothing to win. She must decide where her true loyalties lie, and whether she is willing to risk it all…
For $3-5, these quick read are worth it for a good story. Writing gets better with each book and this one got some emotions out of me.

Caitlin and Caleb embark to find the lost sword. If there's any hope, they must trace Caitlin‘s ancestry. But they're not the only ones searching; the Blacktide Coven wants the sword too. Worse, Caitlin‘s brother, Sam, finds himself in the middle of the vampire war.
Loved won me back. Enjoyed the historical pieces. Plot gets darker & lives up to a YA a little more. Romance is still immature and typos continue, but it's still a great MS option.

I'd say a so-so for this book but only because it seems a bit juvenile for what it's meant to/could be. It's a very quick, interesting read about a girl who's life is turned upside down starting with a new school and some new abilities. I'd recommend for a younger YA/MS. The book seems to speed through some plot lines, diverge from others, and could use an editing look over. It did hook me for Loved Book 2. Post coming soon 🙃

Suggestion from my very surprised boyfriend when he found out I hadn't read The Outsiders. Would I still be tuff if I may or may not have cried a few times?

"Ponyboy can count on his brothers. And on his friends. But not on much else besides trouble with the SOCs, a vicious gang of rich kid whose idea of a good time is beating up "greasers" like Ponyboy. At least he knows what to expect - until the night someone takes things too far."

Picked up this YA at a Dollar Tree and was pleasantly surprised. Murder mystery with a twist and ended up having a sequel that I'll definitely be checking out.

A little cynical when describing people, often going for a low blow to start. Wasn't my cup of tea but I guess it goes with the 15yr old angst. I can even forgive the teen texting lingo which made for a good chuckle and head scratch.
