Finally finished. May try to write a review later...
I can watch episode 3 & 4 of the Netflix series now! A Series of Unfortunate Events is my childhood reread of 2017.

This is a collection of notes/images that give an overall picture of a zombie outbreak. I love the idea that a group got together to contribute images and in that sense it really works. However there are notes that don't really work because the handwriting is too difficult to read/overly far fetched content. And at the beginning a number of notes are signed 'Me' which just bugged me. I'll happily read another volume if the kinks are worked out.
I've been wanting to read this for a long time but I think listening to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie in her own words was fantastic. Despite considering myself a feminist, I typically struggle with dense non-fiction texts. This succinctly covers the point beautifully (of course only the surface level, it doesn't explore intersectionality). And I think is a great entry point for anyone wanting to know more about #feminism
So I've already put in my reading goal of 36 books for 2017, (trying again after I missed it just last year). Here is to a fantastic year of books and being more organised at logging them on #litsy.
Finally finished my Harry Potter reread - after a considerable time away from the books. (With some the last read through was when I still had bedtime stories 🤐) Took me the best part of the year but really craving to start the series over already. Good job I have some other books to reread in distraction.
With the upcoming Netflix series and the nearing of the end for my Harry Potter reread, thought I'd dip into another series from my childhood. The style is very unique for a kids book, and despite a series of unfortunate events, I enjoy the vocabulary snippets and occasional artwork.
Thank goodness Jamie McKelvie is back following the guest artists in volume 3. Felt a little as if I was thrown back into the Universe without preparation but it's all go in this issue. Perhaps a little high tempo the whole time. Still loved it though.
Cosy murder mysteries at the bargain price of 20 books for (d0. Won't be short of books this winter!
I'm one of those people who have been obsessively following Serial, Undisclosed and any podcast relating to the case. But I enjoyed the extra details and behind the scenes of shows I enjoyed. Not sure if it would be as enjoyable to someone hearing about it for the first time.
Love the art style, cute yet kickass characters and a whole lot of girl power. Wasn't a huge fan of the very first issue but adored the rest. Can imagine younger girls really enjoying this too.
I've really know how not to pick happy books for #24in48. Although I enjoyed my other reads. The saddest thing is that I really looked forward to this book, but really had to push my way through it.
I didn't like the writing style, nor most of the characters or plot. The twist at the end I hadn't predicted, but I feel it was too little, too late. And I'm genuinely sad about that. Beautiful cover though.
This book has had mixed reviews, and I think the focus on mental health may be part of that because everyone that experiences it has a different battle.
I found parts of the book quite challenging to read, because of the content but enjoyed the style. Prepare for some challenging content (emotionally), but I couldn't help but warm deeply to Finch and Violet.
Finished for #24in48.
Audiobook finished for #24in48. I'd already read the book, but Stephen Fry has a lovely soothing voice.
The premise of the book is that Maddy is allergic to everything and can't leave the specially modified house - then things happen to disrupt her typical comfortable routine.
If you enjoy YA, then I definitely recommend this to you. Especially POC narrators. It doesn't have traditional chapters, which threw me at first & the author's husband has contributed some lovely art to the book. Read the whole thing in 3 sittings which is very quick for me.
This was my most recent bedtime read, and I found I progressed quite quickly through the novel. I enjoyed the style, although will admit I felt able to predict what was going to happen quite often. Some characters were hard to warm to. But overall looking forward to the author's next book.
I actually read volume 2 & 3 in one sitting. I love the art style, I love the plot. The only negative comments I have is that I feel we didn't see enough of some characters AND the fact I have to wait for volume 4...
I love the idea of this graphic novel - for me personally I felt it lacked some background/world building. So it felt like watching a show where you missed the first episode. Loved Penny Rolle. Definitely recommend people giving it a go, just not my favourite.
There are a few pieces where I felt I was missing something - BUT I was hooked the whole way through. Bring on volume 2.
Current book club book. Couple of chapters in and already love Maud.
