Reading about (sunny) Ancient Rome whilst it's raining ☔ outside
Am thinking about this book whilst I have my lunch. Thankfully lunch is not meat based today
I've been why I have it a soso rather than thumbs up.
Here is my conclusion:
The plus side has been the research and the first hand accounts from the people that were there.
But a more satisfactory book would have fully answered or left fewer unswered questions.
eg:
Impact of the war on Auschwitz
Impact of Auschwitz on the war
Immediate treatment of survivors by liberating forces
Compare & contrast this treatment by Red Army and Western allies
An important subject. he has a journalists eye for a good phrase.
However I felt it could have done with more conceptual analysis
Curious thing about my relationship with this book is I have never made one recipe from it. Yet the tips and advice have been fab
So. in my adventures with baking.....are the best baking recipes from Italia?
Either my next baking is to be the piegata con pomodorini
Funnily enough the children always look at the cakes to cook before their mains
It's a Sunday. Work tomorrow - which for the first time in a long long time I am not looking forward too.
This is the kind of book which puts your own problems into perspective
Yes. all Scottish men look like this and NOT like begbie, renton, sick boy or spud
fun fact. Spell check originally changed begbie to veggie. I wonder what he would've made of that?🤔
In fact it's called Volgograd https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volgograd
I don't think they call it Stalingrad in Russia anymore
I come to Italy and this the room they give me (get the link to the book? Not subtle I know)
......today it is a milk run. But it wasn't in the days of Catch 22
PS......catch 22 is the best book I have EVER read. Read it 12 times so far
Basically war without the glory. In other words there are very few good guys and only the brutality of war
I mean this in the best possible way. The TV show is horrific
We love the same pizza George Clooney enjoys
Healthy and on the Bosh! YouTube channel too
People of Litsy. Please tell me you will read history. (I doubt Trump does either Kanye)
Seriously. Pasta isn't bad for you. I don't get the zero carb thing
This is just the tip of my to be read pile....i just didn't want people to think it was all cook books with me
Linguine Al tonno is simply the most amazing thing.
most important lesson I learned from this book is less is more. I used to throw lots of ingredients into my pasta sauce....but no longer
The butternut squash is gorgeous. Trying the paella next.... ..
Set in Edinburgh. is Edinburgh really posher than Glasgow?
The methods section is amazing. Even I can understand it
I will be using Litsy for all my new reads and NEW TBR books. Call me the happy1848 heretic if you want but all my previously read books are on A N Other social media book sites. If you can guess the importance of 1848 I don't have a prize, but will certainly follow you
Finished it! I haven't read anything for a while and now this book has got me back into reading
