I'm seldom into fantasy novels, but this series has me absolutely hooked. Sleepless and addicted! The author's ability to make each character personal, relatable, and exquisitely unique is so refined. The sexual tension, battle scenes, the doubt and faith that flicker and fade among the cast is breathtaking. This is truly the first time I've wept when an important character dies. The first! Two more books to go before I complete the series. ❤️

I was hopeful this would be an exciting story from Catherine the Great 's POV. It has good reviews, but it left me empty. Even her role in the coup lacked drama and excitement, focusing instead on the importance of the clothes she wore. Silly me bought the whole series at once. Let's see if The Winter Palace changes my mind on this writing style. Fingers crossed. 😮‍💨

Loved this book. It was funny, insightful, cleverly written, and a quick read, thanks to Ms. Schulz's writing skills. It has helped me evaluate my own perception and be more patient with others' views when they seem so wildly different from my own.

Home sick with a sore throat that leaves me nearly mute. Only some in my household find this regrettable ? Tacitus is a quick-moving, passionate read full of great quotes. "No doubt, there was peace after all of this, but it was a peace stained with blood..."

DNF. Absolutely hated the FMC, who was sleuthing out a murderer and telling the victim's family that she was enjoying herself in the process. The murderer was obvious in the first few pages, but in the meantime, I had to read the thousand ways the FMC was so very clever. I hate quitting a book, but she was so irritating.

This author has me wrapped around her finger! My friend told me about Maria York books. This is her 1st. So far the MC, Rebecca travels from England to the Congo w her mentally unstable husband. She finds out that one of his colleagues was killed or murdered and it was hushed up. Now I'm traveling up Mt. Kilimanjaro with her, hoping disease will get her crazy husband and set her free. The book just started though, so I doubt she will be so lucky.

I can't get enough of this series. In surprising moments, a flash of humor amidst grit. Prolonged war scenes wear on me, but I can't skip them because when I do, one of his friends dies and I wonder where they went.
