Three Women | Lisa Taddeo

Pickpick

Taddeo's visceral true stories read like literature, & are filled with touchstones of feminist theory: the increasing self-loathing that seems as natural to female puberty as the blossoming of breasts—& as permanently affixed; self-measuring value by men's desire & other women's judgement; being a reflection to a man of his own prowess, yet invisible in her Self; & the impossible intersection women must navigate between power, economics, & sex.

Love! Love! Love! It‘s been a rocky time for our sweet Flavia de Luce and this book had me a bit weepy eyed at the end because Flavia is getting her feet under her. How I love her! I hope Mr Bradley writes us through her whole life until she is a crusty old diabolically fantastic spinster. I shall read each book with glee. (I enjoyed her at my favorite family retreat in Island Park, Idaho—seen here)

I gobbled up “Curious Case of Copper Corpse,” “Chimney Sweepers,” & “Thrice the Brinded Cat Hath Mewed” in a mere month. I do TRY to stretch out my time with Flavia, so I listen to the audiobook. And then often read it too. (I admit to having heard “Sweetness” perhaps a dozen times b/c xoxo Jayne Entwistle) This one and “Chimney” show Flavia growing up. I hope Alan Bradley never stops writing her & I can watch her grow up over many years! Yarooo!

I LOVE Flavia de Luce! Yaroooo! And Jayne Entwistle (could she have a more perfect name?!) has the perfect voice AND acting chops to truly BE our most incorrigible young sleuth! It took me more than a year to finally read this one because I knew Flavia was facing a real change in her life, and as I was in a rough patch myself, I just couldn‘t bear watching her new struggles. But of course, this was perfectly delightful & satisfying! As always.

Got my signed 40th anniversary edition! Squee! SUCH a memory of reading Bunnicula series with my mom at bedtime and laughing together. Still have my original 1st edition copies, of course. #Library (Since I still have my Easter decor out—including some of my old toys—figured I‘d add extra bunnies to the pic!)

Catt NOTE: Not that I‘m OLD enough to have purchased an original edition of course. (Ahem) 5y

This book is just brilliant. So much more than I even expected. Great stories and thoughtful insights into the justice system and research and even how to get people to open up. I listen to Preet‘s podcasts “Stay Tuned” and “Insider” and love his wit and intellect.

Sy Montgomery‘s “Spell of the Tiger: The Man-Eaters of Sundarbans”—it‘s a few years old but great background for today‘s (5/9/19) NYT headline: ‘[Sundarbans] Bengal Tigers May Not Survive Climate Change‘ https://nyti.ms/2JpXKjM #climatechange#nonfiction. It isn‘t as capturing as “Soul of an Octopus” but then tigers are harder to track down!

TCLinrow Welcome to Litsy! I've been trying to read more non-fiction lately so I think I'll give this one and Soul of an Octopus a go 😊 6y
Catt Thanks! Go straight to Soul of an Octopus. It‘s so lovely and thoughtful. 6y
