I think I've settled on Jackaby for my next read, but with a shelf like this, it was very hard to choose!
Smart and cynical, but also really sweet. The plot took a while to get going, but the characters propelled it forward well enough in the first half. This was a fun read, and I'm always a sucker for modern literature inspired by the classics.
Starting a new book at lunch today. I hope it's a fun one!
Not an easy read for multiple reasons, but definitely a rewarding one. This is a stark and beautiful book, and a wholly immersive reading experience. Ice Cream Star is one of the best characters I've read in fiction, ever. Raw, wild, sensitive, heartbreaking, horrifying. Worth the read for sure.
I was just sitting down reading for a few minutes when I got a sudden urge for ice cream. Weird, right?
A rich fantasy set in the gorgeously-rendered Grisha universe, with well-crafted characters and uncountable twists and turns. Plus, the author is a badass who doesn't shy from putting her characters in impossible scenarios. What's not to love? I can't wait for Book 2.
I first read Sharp Objects in 2006, so it was definitely time for a reread. It's still my favorite Gillian Flynn. It's dark and disturbing, so depraved and unapologetic in its depravity. No one can unsettle me with a metaphor the way she can. Now will she PLEASE just write another full-length novel?
It's rainy and cold here -- the perfect type of day for curling up with a good book!
I have serious cover love for the book I started this morning. (And what's inside has already proven to be pretty beautiful, too.)
