Loved this book!
Loved this as much as Philosopher‘s Flight. Such an interesting new concept of magic and military history.

So beautifully sad. Following the mutations of this strange bird was an emotional roller coaster of hope and dismay. Vandermeer captures the dreamlike worlds in his non human fantastical creatures like no one I know. Currently reading Bourne because the strange bird comes from that world, I like it, but I love The Strange Bird.
Love these ladies. So relatable, unfortunately I have to wait to finish when the book comes out in May, the arc is only half of the book, but def going to get it to finish!
Wanted to like this because I absolutely loved The Dog Stars, but it was really hard to get into the characters.
I understand why it took seven years to wait for this. So beautiful. A literary dreamscape unlike no other. I haven‘t wanted to go live in a book more than this one.
So much fun this book! Really enjoyed the perspective of a man trying to get by in a woman‘s world! I liked the technical ways of using essentially magic, in everyday work and living. Incorporating historical perspective and historical happenings as if this magic existed back to the 1700‘s was great.
Wanted to like this, the author has been through some rough times and I respect his point of view. I wanted more scifi and less details about his texting with his many mistresses and political intrigue that was not very intriguing.
Liked Hyperion, but wish he had just wrapped it up. This started ok, but you know that time when you had to write a paper and you needed to write a certain number of pages so you described stuff unnecessarily ad nauseum just to get the word count? It felt like that.
Not as amazing as Killers of the Flower Moon, but interesting. Went deeper into a known story a little too much for me.
Pretty funny, and full of Athena! My favorite goddess. And Mary Norris‘ too from reading this. Light reading except for the Greek linguistics.
Been in my TBR stack for a while, need to read before Wi14!
Beautifully illustrated post apocalyptic western sci-fi. One of my favorites.
