It's #worldbreastfeedingweek! I'm a huge BFing advocate and have been an LLL member for over a year! Today, not one country meets the WHO or UNICEF breastfeeding standards. Moms aren't receiving the support or education needed to continue (or even start) the recommended 6 months of exclusive breastfeeding. Fewer than 25% of US babies are exclusively breastfed for 6 months. Normalizing is half the battle. Here's my acrobatic boob babe. 😂
Lizpixie Good on you for being an advocate! I tried to bf my kids, except my last, I just didn't have the milk supply unfortunately. Broke my heart having to formula feed. 🍼 8y
Bookgirl Excellent. We need more awareness. LLL didn't support me in bf'ing though as I had to initially use a nipple shield with both kids. Was told this was "wrong." Nursed one kid for a year and the other for 9 months. Never will forget how LLL made me feel like a failure. Forever grateful to the nurse at the hospital who gave me that shield on the sly and said to give it a try. I would never have continued nursing without it. 8y

winemom @Bookgirl I'm so sorry that happened to you. That particular LLL group sounds plain shitty—they were beyond wrong in telling you using a nipple shield is "wrong". What's wrong is continuing to bf when you're in pain and/or uncomfortable. There is no wrong way to feed your baby, while also taking care of your needs. You're far from a failure. Not all LLLs are created equal, some are more "holier than thou" puritans. Those are the ones you run from! 8y
Bookgirl @winemom absolutely! Happy to hear that's not the view of LLL as a whole!!! Fortunately I listened to the nurse and my heart and had a wonderful experience nursing my kids despite a rocky beginning. 8y
