Apparently, I need a tbr wherever I am, including my office. This is my book collection at work, cast offs and recommendations from fellow coworkers. I know the #workplacesetting prompt likely referred to the settings of stories, but I thought this would work too. #day21 #feistyfeb

MicheleinPhilly I store books at work too! 8y
PurpleyPumpkin @MicheleinPhilly I can never refuse the offer of a book, and I'm glad that I now have choices at work too! 8y
MicheleinPhilly My only issue with storing books at work is that sometimes I need to read a book RIGHT NOW and then I remember that it's in my office. 😕 8y

#workplacesetting I know I'm a day late this #feistyfeb , but I've been so busy and this was an easy post for me (can't believe I missed it)! Top photo: locked case books in our collection. Bottom center: my messy desk. Bottom left: a cataloging module I'm on half the day. Bottom right: a census page from Ancestry which I'm on the other half of the day.

LeahBergen Oh, this makes my heart go all aflutter. ❤❤❤ 8y
saresmoore 😍 What is your title? 8y
Hobbinol @LeahBergen They've got pills for that now, hon.😉 8y
See All 19 Comments
Hobbinol @saresmoore Peon No. 1 and Fall Guy No. 2 8y
saresmoore I think that's a good order of things. Fall Guy No. 1 possibly has higher earning potential, but he's probably unwittingly a part of some embezzlement scheme. 8y
saresmoore Also, both are preferable to my title: Mo-om! (The exclamation point is not optional.) 8y
shawnmooney I'm swooning over all of those pictures and the lives they hint at! In particular, can you tell me more about the reference to – your connection with - the capitalized noun Ancestry? It sounds rather genealogical… 8y
Hobbinol @shawnmooney @saresmoore I work in a collection developed for local historians and genealogists. We also have the rare books for the library-- which I catalog. But most of the time I'm scrolling through old wills and deeds trying to find anyone's great aunt Beulah, and if she's real hard to find, I hope it's for sleazy reasons-- those are really fun! (edited) 8y
shawnmooney Wonderful! Fun fact about yours truly: I was a dweeby teen genealogist, and the youngest certified genealogist in the world at the age of 17. That was back in the mid-80s; I'm sure someone must've broken my record by now. :-) I have almost zero interest in genealogy anymore but it was a big part of my adolescence, strange as it may sound. ❤ 8y
Hobbinol @shawnmooney That's truly impressive!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 8y
LeahBergen @shawnmooney More Shawn stories, please. 😀 8y
shawnmooney @LeahBergen Aww, you made my day! (The Shawn stories get a lot more interesting after the second glass of wine....😜) 8y
saresmoore @Hobbinol I actually have two great aunt Beulahs. Seriously. And I agree with @LeahBergen , @shawnmooney you are a rare gem! 8y
Hobbinol @shawnmooney Well, drink up! 8y
Hobbinol @saresmoore I'd love to be a Mom (or rather, a dad), but it doesn't look like that's in the stars for me. I've been in this position for 17 years and while I've enjoyed connecting many people with their dead ancestors, I can't help but to wonder if I had a 17 year old child instead, how rewarding it must feel to see them off to university. Oh well. My partner is a retiree and this position allows me the insouciance I craved when I was a supervisor 8y
saresmoore It's funny because I often wonder how satisfying it would be to have a long-term career. My dad has probably the most unique and well-rounded perspective on all this. He was married to my mom for 25 years before they split & he came out to my brother and me. He has worked tirelessly (and at times miserably) to achieve career success and life satisfaction. He's 57 now and still hasn't figured how to be happy. The grass is always greener, I suppose! 8y
saresmoore I keep trying to think of a way to make that comment sound less depressing! I find you to be a wonderful human, even though I only know you virtually. I am hopeful that there is fulfillment available to each of us in one form or another. ❤️ 8y
Hobbinol @saresmoore Not that I always have to have the last word, but the overused analogy of the journey is appropriate here-- if we were fulfilled, we wouldn't bother looking elsewhere and we probably wouldn't learn many new things along the way. I wouldn't trade all my experiences for fulfillment, would you? Just to have a great journey and meet wonderful people like you is a reward in itself. And your father sounds amazing! 8y
saresmoore Yes! Such wisdom! I absolutely wouldn't trade my past experiences or my future failures. My dad really is amazing—he lives in a converted barn known affectionately as "The Agriloft" and he takes his granddaughters on all manner of fun adventures. ? 8y

I'm a day late but this was the first book that came to mind when I thought of a #workplacesetting. The main character, Mae Holland, gets a job at an internet company. Kinda like Google. At first, it seems like a dream job. But not everything is as perfect as it seems. I'm trying to read this before the movie comes out! #feistyfeb
@RealLifeReading

Zelma I absolutely loved it. Just finished it last week. 8y

#feistyfeb #day21 #workplacesetting I wasn't sure how to interpret this one, so this book is set in an office of super powered female assassins. That's a workplace, right?

The bookstore I work at doesn't always look like this, but it's my favourite picture of the place! #workplacesetting #feistyfeb

RadicalReader @KassKho what a heaven I can't imagine working in a place like this. I would always come home with books 8y
KassKho @RadicalReader it's hard! Luckily publishers and work send me books for free or I wouldn't ever get a pay check 😆😁 8y
RadicalReader @KassKho what are the most recent books you got for free? 8y

Cinfhen That's such a joyful environment 💖 8y
MrBook Whaaaaaat?! Where....where is this magical paradise??? It's gorgeous. I must visit this place 😱! 8y
elkeOriginal What store is this? This needs to be noted for a future vacation spot! 8y
RadicalReader @elkeo most definitely I second this idea 8y
RadicalReader @MrBook lives in a physical paradise as opposed to your dreams 8y
MrBook @RadicalReader 😂👏🏻🙌🏻 8y
KassKho @MrBook and @elkeo Canada has a chain of bookstores called Indigo. This is the one in Montreal where I live and work. Not all the stores look quite as grand 😁 8y
MrBook It's gorgeous! 8y
elkeOriginal I have heard of Indigo! It's a shame I missed it when I visited Montreal several years ago. Not sure how I missed a bookstore! Maybe I was struck delirious by my discovery of poutine 😉 8y
KassKho @elkeo I can't even blame you because poutine is literally a gift from above 8y
elkeOriginal That is no understatement 👍😁 8y

So, I'm going to go with this as a #workplacesetting for #feistyfeb. I am an anthropologist, though really I'm a biological anthropologist and this book is about cultural anthropologists, but I'm still counting it lol (image from google)

Redjewel_7734 Gorgeous!!!! 8y
Lindy Amazing gum trees. ❤️ 8y

LeahBergen My university minor is in physical anthropology. 😀 8y
bookwrm526 @Shortstack well, currently nothing nearly as exciting as the settings in this book (I teach at a university) but in general my specialty is the human skeleton and what it can tell us about health, disease, nutrition, etc. in the past (edited) 8y
Shortstack @bookwrm526 That is incredible! 8y

I haven't read this one, but based on what I've heard about it I'm assuming it involves a #WorkplaceSetting. #FeistyFeb

I'm a civil litigator and I often have to do investigations and depositions much like one of my fave characters ever, Matthew Shardlake, the humpback lawyer in Tudor England in Sansom's wonderful books. #workplacesetting #feistyfeb

LeslieO I think I would love these and do t know why I haven't read them yet! 8y
Libby1 I adore this series. 8y
Texreader @LeslieO I found my first book at Half Price so hopefully you can get a good start cheaply! I hope you love them as much as I do. 8y

??????? #FeistyFeb #WorkplaceSetting

This was a very fun & charming read that takes place in the hectic high stressed and glitzy magazine world. It's basically "The Devil Wears Prada" for the digital tech-savvy age of today but with a much more sinister villain in my opinion-- Miranda has nothing on Eve Morton!??
