"You were worth it, old friend, and a thousand times over."
---
2019 started off with another book crossed off The Great American Read list. I somehow lived my life not hearing about this book until this past summer. I read it for "life experience". It is a beautiful story. I can see how this book might be helpful with pre-teens beginning to experience life: its highs and lows. #wheretheredferngrows #wilsonrawls #litsy #DustyBookshelf #LitsyReads

Pickpick

I finished listening to this audio. A very good book but very sad in the end. Children and adults will love this story which is a interesting classic. Captures the powerful bond between man and his best friend. #thegreatamericanread #1001books #wheretheredferngrows

sudi I'm so excited to read this book, i have it on my TBR for #garbingo. A classic i never read as a child 😞 6y

LazyDays They made me read this is school. Cruel thing to do I cried ugly with this one. 6y
EadieB @LazyDays Maybe you should have read it at home with your mom or another adult so you could discuss it afterwards. 6y
LazyDays Maybe, I should have thought of that then ☺ It is still a book I own today, I can't seem to let it go💜 6y
EadieB @Lazydays It‘s good to hold on to that one that touched you so much then you can read it to your kids so they don‘t have the same experience that you had. 6y
LazyDays Very true💜 6y
Tamra This was, along with Old Yeller, were traumatic childhood reads. 😭 6y
TheEldritchProfessor I still have my copy of this too. I think it may have been the first book that ever made me lay it down and just sob for half an hour or so. I‘m not sure why I keep it, because I couldn‘t bear to read it again... I guess just because it was such a powerful experience. 6y
rubyslippersreads @TheEldritchProfessor I‘m like that with The Yearling. I have a lovely copy, but don‘t think I could stand to read it again. 🦌 6y

#novemberbookchallenge #16: Books that made you cry 😭

Where the Red Fern Grows was the first book I ever read that made me cry. My fifth grade teacher read it to the class and damn, that book is intense 😣
Room and Me Before You are the other two that really stuck in my mind.

niki.inwonderland @DivineDiana Totally! Next thing I know I'm messy crying and my husband is all worried that something horrible has happened to me. Haha. 8y
