⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2Flaws and all, I loved this book. This is one of his earlier books and you can see the talent coming our way. I loved all the intertwining stories of traveler‘s stopping along their journeys at a hostel on Venice Beach, and became very invested in their secrets. A little too coincidental in places but still highly recommended.
I enjoyed this one. I was thinking of posting it as “so-so,“ but. It's because I had listened to it while sick, and it had to relisten a few chapters because of it. And there were so many characters. I do like this author though, and I am looking forward to reading or listening to more of his works (probably in the other world though) 🦞
I enjoyed learning about all the people who landed at a hostel in Venice Beach. They are all running from, or searching for, something. Even tho there are a lot of characters it's easy to keep track of everyone. There are a lot of deaths, past & present, in these people's lives & quite a few surprises; some of the little bombs Marrs sprinkled throughout the plot took me completely by surprise. The last few, in particular, I did not see coming!
A recent John Marrs for my Saturday reading 🤩
(Not much progress yet though due to migraine. Hoping it goes away soon 😣)
4.5 Stars • "The Vacation" by John Marrs is a thriller set in a hostel in Venice Beach, California. The story follows a group of strangers each with their own secrets and hidden motivations. The narrative unfolds through short chapters and flashbacks, slowly revealing the connections and secrets between the characters. The book has been praised for its quick pace, numerous twists, and a satisfying ending.
Just got home from work and going to start on this one💙
Although it is definitely not his best (it‘s one of his earliest thrillers, re-edited and renamed a few years afters its publication) I still enjoyed John Marrs‘s book about travelers from all over the world meeting each other in a rundown LA hostel. All carry secrets from their past and the book is full of plot lines and twists. I couldn‘t stop reading!
This was a book that was originally released as “Welcome to Wherever Your Are“ in 2015. It is set in a hostel in Venice Beach, California and while it has many characters and multiple story lines that intersect in various ways (perhaps stretching credulity) , it was a fun and easy read. There is a bit of a thriller aspect to it and it had some violence, but overall it had a lighter feel. I kept imagining it as a movie as I read it. 4/5 stars!
