Pickpick

Wow! I don't think the ending was at all a surprise, even the fact that Patrick covered for his son. When he drowned the cat, I knew he was bad news. There was no closure to Mark's disappearance, Lina's father or where Shawn went however my guess is that he's dead, it's the old boyfriend and far away from Helen to begin a new, twisted life. Julia becoming a mother figure to Lina was a good thing; they need each other. 🎥 potential! #ucfproflc

BrielleR Drowned a cat? That's horrible :( 7y

I have finished this book a week early and in order not to spoil anything regarding this crazy read, I will wait to make my final post until next Sunday. I will say that I could see this being turned into a movie; possibly a suspenseful and scary one @CherylVDM @Mlittle @Ehoffman #ucfproflc

Ehoffman I too finished the book early 😉 too intriguing to put down. That's all I'll say for now. More next Sunday! 7y

I have now read up to part 3! I think I have all of the characters straight now. Patrick and Shawn Townsend are both hiding something. I think Shawn cheated on Helen with Nell and possibly, Patrick (identified as the Satan of the town) took care of her! I didn't see the Mark and Katie connection coming at all. What else does Josh know about his sister's death? I feel sad for Lena's losses! Will someone else die in the drowning pool? #ucfproflc

Ehoffman It is definitely easier to keep all the characters straight at this point in the book, but still so many unknowns. Jules is really having a hard time keeping it together! #ucflitprof 7y

So, the funeral was a strange event. Julia's response to seeing Nel's old boyfriend and Erin's observation of Patrick, the cat killer, were both interesting. Helen is the DI's wife and Patrick is her father in law; their relationship is odd. It's still somewhat confusing with so many characters but it's intriguing! #ucfproflc

Ehoffman Agreed, still quite confusing and the plot becomes more entwined with each turn of the page! 8y
CherylVDM I was thinking the same thing. The whole town seems to have a "secret" that they perceive is worth protecting. I wonder if Nicki is the voice of their collective conscience. 8y
Mlittle I agree! Everyone seems to have a past that they're wanting to hide. That's what makes this reading so intriguing! Thanks for inviting me to be a part of this read and discussion! 7y

DrSpalding So, I was so ahead of the reading, I read another book, What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty! Now, I am behind. Will catch up and post soon! #ucfproflc 7y
BrielleR Do you recommend this book @DrSpalding ?? I am looking for a good summer read! I like thrillers! 7y
DrSpalding @BrielleR it is a strange one! I am not done yet. Keep checking our posts to see if you think you'd like it. I will post again soon! 7y

This book is still somewhat confusing to me. I'm concerned about Nell's daughter; Aunt Jules is making her out to be a psychopath. Nell taunted and bullied Jules throughout her childhood. No wonder she left town and didn't respond to her calls. The cabin is a scary place. The water is worse...looking forward to figuring some if this out!

anakenn The connection between Nell's daughter and the girl who died is interesting. I wonder why the mom is avoiding her. Also, what is going on with that cabin????? 8y
DrSpalding Right! I think Nell was at that cabin before she died. 8y

Mlittle I agree! Each character seems to have secrets!!! Yes....Nel discovered something at that cabin....in that town! Love the book! 8y
DrSpalding Way to post @Mlittle ❤️📚 8y
Mlittle I think Nel was dead before she went into the water.., or, maybe too many CSI shows! 8y
DrSpalding I love those shows too @mlittle ! I agree! Was it Mark the teacher? Was it her daughter? 8y

#ucfproflc first several chapters I found myself flipping back and forth trying to keep characters straight , but starting to connect a bit now. I'm not liking the Mark Henderson character at all!!

CherylVDM Interesting and intriguing. The characters are quite dark. 8y
DrSpalding #ucfprofLC I agree. I took notes on all of characters! It can't be that we have met the killer in Mark Henderson. He's the teenage daughter's teacher and was one of the last to see the latest victim. I get the feeling that all if these characters that have loved ones that have succumb to the water, think they killed themselves. Strange!!! Looking forward to continuing the book! 8y
CherylVDM #ucfproflc What about the "slaughter" at Wards cottage? Is that where this all intersects? I get the sense that everything that has happened in Beckford began there. And why does Louise think that Nel's death will silence her? 8y

CWalters A friend cautioned me that I'd start getting lost in the large number of characters and would need to reread. Can't believe how early in the book it happened! Looking forward to reading further... 8y
twenzel Same here! Especially when only reading a few chapters at a time. This is one I could just spend a few hours digging into...will be hard to wait and follow our chapter assignments each week. 8y
anakenn I flipped back and forth quite a bit. I am very interested in the nervous swimming guy, Mark! What's his story??? 8y
DrSpalding @anakenn we are all wondering about him but I say, he's too obvious to be the killer. 8y
anakenn @DrSpalding I agree ...I just wonder what he's up to. Also...I only see this post. Are there others? 8y
DrSpalding @CherylVDM tell me more about Ward's cottage! Also, these deaths do have the police officer in common! 8y
CherylVDM @DrSpalding In the chapter with a different font - she is talking about the storytelling. She talks about Libby and then mentions a "slaughter" at Wards cottage. I'm wondering if that's what all the tragedies have in common. Maybe something they witnessed or even participated in???? 8y
CherylVDM @anakenn @twenzel @CWalters @DrSpalding I spent so much time flipping back and forth, I started putting post-it notes at the end of the chapter! 8y

#ucfprofLC I enjoyed the friendship between Lucy and Nate along with the photography and loon theme throughout the story. The bald 🦅 scene was sad but expected. I saw an eagle while kayaking on the St. John's River over Spring Break. This was a recent text to 🌎 connection. Overall, I think this book would be a good addition to a classroom library but I wouldn't place it in a book pass for LCs.
