The #AuldLangSpine holds are starting to come in! This is the stack I picked up at work last night. All wildly different genres, so whichever one I start with will be purely based on mood!

I ❤️ this. So many literal & figurative car wrecks. Amazing character development with complicated histories & relationships. In chapter 1, Dominic‘s identical twin Thomas amputates his own hand in a public library, sending him to a psychiatric hospital. The story tracks present time & jumps around their history, as Dominic tries to make sense of their lives & make it through, all while concerned what could trigger his potential schizophrenia.

Ayanna is a twin, but when she chose to live with their father after the divorce, her sister Olivia chose their mother. While Olivia lives a conventional life and attends Catholic mass, Ayanna is raised in the ways of Pathsong, a group devoted to the study of mysterious blue doors that appeared spontaneously around the world. A reflective, deeply moving novel about grief and finding meaning through connection, although the ending was a bit evasive
“Sometimes being yourself is the hardest thing you‘ll ever do, but it‘s also the most important.”
This book would be great to include in a class library in a 5th-grade classroom and up. Graphic novels are a popular pick, and this one is great for students as they discover themselves, experience crushes, and conflict resolution.
Published in 2024, this graphic novel explores themes like queer identity, first crushes, friendship conflicts, and ambition in music. It makes these mature topics accessible to preteens (ages 10–14) through age-appropriate characters and situations, a balanced tone, and relatable conflicts.

Oh, how I love these books. I have all of du Jardin's books. They're loaded with 1950s nostalgia from the point of view of young women. The Pam & Penny series is my favorite, and I usually revisit these every couple of years. 🧡💜💛

This is probably my fourth time reading this novel and it tore my heart to pieces as relentlessly as it did the first time. A beautiful story, every time I read it I am reminded that real growth as a human being always involves looking yourself in the eye, confronting your shortcomings and asking for forgiveness, and how incredibly difficult that is.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I enjoyed this graphic novel about twins! A great story for middle schoolers about middle schoolers. I loved getting to know these twin sisters and will absolutely be reading the 2nd book in the series. I appreciate a well done book for kids that can even pull me in as a young adult. Quite an enjoyable read for me.
