pick⭐⭐⭐⭐ Spent 2 weeks with this novel, an ambitious multigenerational epic and a confronting story of race and privilege. Shot through with tracts on Darwinian evolution, genetics and other diversions. It feels nourished by authors like Faulkner and Melville. A cerebral and confronting book and I applaud the attempt to capture something of the nature of race and the cascading consequences of history within a complex and yet very readable 550 pages.
