This is my second #maggieofarrell book (I adored #thismustbetheplace!), and I Am, I Am, I Am absolutely grabbed me from the first page. This book, a memoir that examines (as the subtitle says) 17 brushes with death, moves through O‘Farrell‘s near misses in episodes, each revealing a facet of her life, character, and perspective.

#becausebookclub So this book, though I'm only 20 pages into it, is striking a nerve with me. I lost my grandfather a couple of years ago. My Poppy: one of the most incredible, grumpy, crazy, negative, loving, responsible men I have ever known in my entire life. The hardest part about it was the suddenness and unimportance that seemed to go along with his death. He was a war veteran, an amazing craftsman...continued in comments

AnnaDesourdy a fantastic husband and father; and suddenly he was gone and I felt like the world didn't mourn him enough.
