The Great Indian Novel | Shashi Tharoor

Congratulations on the Litsyversary, @BarbaraBB and thank you for hosting the #ThinkLocalGiveAway. I realized that I haven‘t reading anything set in Oregon which I need to rectify. However, I usually recommend the tagged fictional book set in India. It is one of my favorites as it focuses on the political history from the time that India gained independence in 1947 but the characters reimagined from the Indian epic, the Mahabharata.

I read this book when i was 16, which i think was too young an age to understand this multifaceted, complex story. Don't remember much now, which tells me that i should re-read it. Set in Kerala in India, it's a tale of forbidden love, family, childhood bonds, hope. #thinklocalgiveaway

Congrats @BarbaraBB ! You always have the greatest post! I am recommending "The Good Neighbor". Mr. Roger's is an icon in western PA. And especially now, his wisdom is sorely needed.

This Canadian novel is set in Vancouver‘s Chinatown in the 1940s and tells the story of three siblings growing up as immigrants when their family is still very much a part of ‘Old China‘.

Vancouver is not my hometown (it‘s in the next province) but I‘ve spent a lot of time there (and in Chinatown, as well). This is a beautiful first novel and I highly recommend it.

In the Lake of the Woods | Tim O'Brien

There are too many fantastic books set in NYC, most of which you've already read (10:04). So, I am recommending a book set in the state where I grew up: Minnesota. Tim O'Brien wrote one of my favorite 1001 books (The Things They Carried) and I also enjoyed this mystery.

One of the things I am missing this summer is my vacation to visit family in the Twin Cities and the few days we'd spend at the lake.

ravenlee They‘re a lot of fun, with tons of books and authors dropped into the story as teasers and games. I really enjoy them. They‘re set in (I believe) Alexandria, Ohio, a small town where nothing much happens. I know you‘re hurting for books to read 😂

TheAromaofBooks @TheLudicReader - no I haven't!! After I posted this I remembered that I have also enjoyed Linda Castillo's series set in the Amish Country area of Ohio. However, Ready Player One is still the one I've found closest to my actual location, other than a super old book published in the early 1800's called Forest Rose. It's a fun tale but rather full of casual anti-Native American sentiment per the time it was written! 5y
