I did read Huck Finn when I was a kid, but it‘s been so long I don‘t remember much about it, except that I thought Tom Sawyer was better.

I‘m not going to say too much because I‘m saving it for the #CampLitsy discussion on Saturday, but I thought this was a satirical retelling at its best.

Sietje‘s morning face… she knows it‘s about time to leave for work.

Sietje had to have a broken tooth pulled yesterday, so last night was dedicated to babying her. She‘s doing fine, but her pain meds make her a little groggy.

This is my second by Alvarez, and it was pretty good. Vignettes about the four Garcia sisters and their parents, both in the Dominican Republic and after moving to the US. Some of the stories were really funny, and I liked this family.

Short story and vignettes aren‘t my favorite, low 👍.

I liked the parts of this that were memoir of Helen‘s life, her childhood and love for her dad, her fascination with hawking from a young age, and her experience raising and working with goshawk Mable.

As other reviews have said, I could have done without most of the parts about TH White. I ended up skimming a lot of that, and don‘t think the book needed that much info about him.

I am interested in her other books.
