I always enjoy a little mystery with my historical romance, although I didn‘t quite feel the chemistry between the two main characters.

The book starts with a lot of info dumping. It takes about 200 pages before anything happens. I kept going because I've heard how amazing it was.

For me, it did not improve. There was too much narration, hardly any dialogue, and I was bored.

Catsandbooks Aw sorry you didn't like this one 2mo
PuddleJumper @Catsandbooks I didn't like Six of Crows either so might be the writing style. Enjoyed the TV show though 2mo

Okay read but I'm just not into this sort of book. Not a horror fan. I also kept thinking it copied a movie I'd seen about Skull and Bones (which I also didn't really enjoy very much).

PuddleJumper Just about to start this. I'm not a massive horror fan so I'll see how it goes! 2mo

I bought this book years ago to read at the airport. Sadly, I lost the copy, and the hope is ever find such a unique book ever again. Yet, with luck, I got to reread it! Cantero is a genius. Characters encounter the traditional haunted house inherited. Including visions and those who locate the original instances. Codexes and Help (a good doggo). An epistolary novel to reread for details. Unfolds like the secrets of what is beyond.

Clay‘s desperate search for a job leads him to a night shift for a mysterious bookshop. When he discovers the regulars are part of a secret organization, it‘s time for him to do some mystery solving.

Delightful! I was fascinated by the intersection of old knowledge w/ technology, I loved the affection for San Francisco as a setting & the humor was spot on. The characters did feel a little flat & I wanted more of the relationships.🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

BarbaraJean AND, if you haven't already made this discovery... the cover glows in the dark!! 2mo

BookmarkTavern @BarbaraJean I realized that a couple nights ago when I was reading it before bed, put it down and turned the lights out and thought “what is this weird light?” 🤣🤣 2mo
BarbaraJean @BookmarkTavern 😂😂 That is exactly the way I discovered the glowiness! 2mo

BC_Dittemore Ohhh… I read that a few years ago. Very good. Thanks for reminding me of a book I need to re-read. 😅 2mo
OutsmartYourShelf Brilliant! 2mo
TheAromaofBooks I really enjoyed this one!!! I also liked another of Sloan's books - it's that same sort of borderline between real/not real. Kind of like sci-fi realism 😂 2mo

I have been on the hunt for this book ever since I read it a few years ago. I fell in love with this quirky little read and knew I needed it in my collection. The glow in the dark aspect is even better in person.

Set at an elite Long Island prep school, Jill is about to begin her senior year when she starts getting strange texts about the death of her best friend, Shaila, who was murdered when they were freshmen. Jill, a member of the school‘s not-so-secret society, sets out to find the truth about who really killed Shaila, upsetting friends, family, and the community in the process. A decent YA murder mystery!

#ReadAway2024 #SeriesLove2024 I really enjoyed this. I don‘t know what genre it is. Fantasy? Magical Realism? And I don‘t care about labeling it. I just know I‘m glad I read it.

thegirlwiththelibrarybag In which case I recommend the prequel 3mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I read this nearly 10 years ago and remember nothing more than I liked it. I picked up the prequel but never read it. It might be time for a reread. 3mo

CatLass007 @thegirlwiththelibrarybag I‘ve read it and enjoyed it. I‘ve fallen behind on my reviews. @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I would encourage you to reread it and give the prequel a try. I found it quite enjoyable. 3mo

CatLass007 @thegirlwiththelibrarybag Moonbound isn‘t available in audio format at my library, which is too bad. But I‘ll keep checking. Thank you for the link and info about his short stories. 3mo
