Pictured 24 of the 26 books I‘ve bought since our #Indigo announced it is closing. Someone please repost this every time a swap or postal book club is announced. #savemefrommyself #bookwormproblems

Tamra I was thinking the same as I sorted & packed books last weekend - I have no business buying anything new! 6y
Lizpixie What is this new Robert Jordan tome I spy on the MountTBR??👀 6y
BookishTrish @Lizpixie It‘s a Tor mini hardback edition of the series‘ prequel!!! 6y

Hi, my name is Holly and I have a problem. I can't stop buying books.
Originally, I was planning a book buying ban for February. Instead, that somehow morphed into me buying an obscene amount of books.
March is shaping up to be a long month, since I am determined once again to not buy any more books.

So, here's my question ....do book buying bans actually work? How do YOU resist temptation ??

#bookbuyingban #BBB #savemefrommyself

jillannjohn I‘ve tried. Can‘t do it. I‘ll probably never read all the books I own! 7y
elkeOriginal It‘s like eating chocolate - if you ban yourself completely then you will lose your mind and then binge like a crazy person. Cut back, but not completely. Think for a minute. It helps. 7y
CSeydel I sate the urge by bringing home huge stacks from the library! 7y

Kalalalatja I‘m on a ban now, and the struggle is real! My lust for new books feels so much bigger than normal, but I made a bet with my bf, and I really need to stick to it!!! 7y
Ddzmini Uh oh are you sure it may be a mistake 😳📚 7y
TheLibrarian So I originally was going to do a ban but decided I was setting myself up for failure. Instead, I‘m limiting myself to only a certain amount of books/spending less money than the previous year. 7y
2BR02B @CSeydel I do the same- libraries all the way. I also ask myself tough questions: am I likely to read this anytime soon, or will it just be collecting dust for the foreseeable future? Is it a deal I'm unlikely to find again? If it checks out, like if it's a book club pick I'm reading soon that I can't get from the library, I allow myself to buy it. 7y
2BR02B I also find that most of my personal library is unread books- I rarely reread, and often get rid of books I've already read. So I'll do things like reading samples of books on Amazon before I commit to buying them, in an effort to buy fewer books I'm going to end up giving 1- or 2-star ratings, or DNFing altogether. 7y
CSeydel @2BR02B Exactly! I‘ve bought more books this year than usual because 1: our book club keeps picking brand-new books that have like 138 holds at the library, so I have to buy them, and 2: I got the Kindle app on my phone and I can‘t resist a 1.99 deal for a book that‘s already in my TBR! 7y
2BR02B @CSeydel Those kindle deals just bomb my otherwise-sensible approach to book buying. I had to unsubscribe from all the deals emails I was getting once I realized I had nearly 1000 unread kindle books... 7y
Paula3 If you figure out how to stop buying books please let me know. 🙃 7y
Hooked_on_books I don‘t believe bans work for people like us. What I‘m trying to do this year is read more of my own books than the number of new books I acquire. I don‘t know if it‘s going to work yet, but I did really well in January. I used a couple of Christmas gift cards in February, so that has skewed my numbers a bit. 7y
