I wouldn't say Dolores Umbridge is my #favoritevillain, but she is certainly the one that scares me the most, because she exemplifies what Hannah Arendt famously termed "the banality of evil." #riotgrams #riotgram4

cathysaid I don't know why but that picture REALLY creeps me out! 😱 8y
BookishMarginalia @cathysaid Me too! That's why I chose it! 8y
saresmoore Well said! 8y

[DELETED] 1409720085 She is pure evil. She is definitely my most hated villain. Most villains I can empathize with but not her. 👿 8y
Bookquilter This was my first thought for this prompt too! She scares me more than Lord Voldemort. 8y
BookishMarginalia @saresmoore @emilydecato @Bookquilter Voldemort's motivation I can actually understand. Hers I cannot. That's what makes her so terrifying. Umbridge really is the embodiment of the "average" civil servant who takes pleasure in enforcing the laws of a corrupt regime. It is those people that terrify me, because without them, leaders like Voldemort wouldn't be able to exert influence. 8y
LitHousewife Oh, that's a great choice! 8y
EllieDottie I completely agree! 8y
Libby1 I love that you mention Delores Umbridge in the same breath as Hannah Arendt. 8y
Lmstraubie I think the thing that always got me about Doloras Umbridge was how evil she was & didn't identify herself as a deatheater. She was just evil. 8y
MyNamesParadise I would've taken Lord Voldemort any day over that bitch! Bellatrix and Voldemort had personalities at least...Umbridge was just 😖😖😖😖 8y
