CatLass007 Meh. All the relevant clues were found offstage. I think the reader should know what the sleuth knows so we can figure out the mystery along with the protagonist. Conan Doyle doesn‘t seem to have held that belief. 1y

dabbe @CatLass007 Agree 💯. Doyle also reuses similar plots: like the guy with the checkered past that comes back to literally kill him. 1y

IndoorDame I think it‘s funny he basically opens the story by admitting he‘s been slacking in his writing lately. But that could just as easily be a way to try and write himself out of this series with the public, or try and write himself back into it (either in public perception or by attempting to actually spark his own interest again). I don‘t have a theory which one it is here… 1y

dabbe @IndoorDame Well, we are only 3 stories away from “The Final Problem.“ I definitely see some ennui in Doyle's/Watson's writing. 1y

I thought Blessington sounded like a SUPER made up name - and turns out it was! 1y

Cuilin It seems indecent to say that this story was rather mundane, as it‘s quite good but compared to all the others it‘s a tad forgettable. 1y

Aimeesue I didn‘t love it, but I didn‘t hate it either. I think if I‘d read it on its own instead of in a collection, I‘d be fine with it. 1y
