This was an amazing discovery. I‘m always in awe of writers who not only create works in different forms but can also do translations. From what I have discovered in other books, I‘m thinking Dante was not easy to translate.

Didn‘t make a #36by36 update yesterday, so here‘s a twofer. I finished The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows on Monday. Nick Allen would love this book. 🖊️ I am glad I read it and am actually surprised that these are not “actual” words because I have found myself relating to so many of these, some frighteningly specific to my own experience. I hope to own it at some point in print because a lot of these concepts deserve further introspection. ⬇️

MatchlessMarie This makes book 5 for #10BeforeTheEnd. I had an eye exam on Monday so I was a bit bleary eyed for a good part of the day so I ended up starting A Part of Your World on audio and am enjoying it so far. I was a little hesitant because the last Abby Jimenez I read was so upsetting 😂 I am hoping to finish it today as well as Reasons to Stay Alive. Just about 10 hours left on this challenge 💪🏻 #NFN 2d
MatchlessMarie Yesterday I didn‘t get a lot of reading done. I was working and listening to a podcast for a discussion I attended last night it was the Cultish podcast on the episode on Defecting from Bethel. As an ex evangelical it was very difficult to listen to/ revisit some of this stuff. It was pretty triggering so I could only listen to part one and about half of part 2. Talking through this BS with others with similar experiences was good for me, though. 2d
Bookwormjillk Ugh on the BS but I‘m glad there are others you can talk to 2d
MatchlessMarie @Bookwormjillk For sure! I used to consume so much content around deconstruction when I first left the church but I feel like I got theology fatigue so for a long time I‘ve just been like I don‘t want to think about this stuff anymore. But it was validating to talk with other ppl who have experienced the cult that is the evangelical church. 2d

This was a tough read, especially now, but I wasn‘t going to extend my hold after waiting for it since July. The whole book was interesting, but I preferred the parts that pertained to more modern medicine. I wish there was something about how to advocate for myself, my daughter, and my mother. #SheRead @Riveted_Reader_Melissa #36by36 @MatchlessMarie #NFN

MatchlessMarie Ooh I‘d read one that included the missing parts. That part is so hard IRL. 🖤 2d

Initially doctors thought only men could have MS even though now we know women get it at much higher rates than men. In women it was just diagnosed as hysteria.

I made it out for two walks today and with this rage inducing listen I made really good time. Grrrr.

MidnightBookGirl 😡 That is both infuriating and unsurprising. 3d

I wanted a quick audiobook to listen to this morning and decided to try this one by James Taylor. #TodayILearned how much his adolescence and family life shaped him and his music. I also had no clue about his close connection to the Beatles (I was born in a post-Beatles world). Very interesting. #NFN

tpixie Thx! ☺️ 3d
MemoirsForMe Oh, I must listen to this. Love JT! 2d

Yesterday I took a walk in the warm sunshine and listened to the post election Pantsuit Politics podcast. I wouldn‘t say I learned anything but I do think it had a good message about moving forward. So today‘s post is a quote not a new fact.

“Together is what we have.”

cariashley I need to check out that podcast. Trying to push myself to think about moving forward instead of just wallowing. 5d

Thought I‘d be reading either a #NFN pick or cozy fantasy next. After that devastating election, though, the tagged book showed up in the mail and I decided to go all in on the dystopian outlook. No idea where this book is going, but I‘m here for the ride.

This quote really hit me, especially when I think of all the people who voted for Trump, and all the people who sat this election out. Being human rests on very little indeed😢

Suet624 Did you read Heather Cox Richardson‘s post from today? She talks about voters just now being shocked that tariffs are not what they thought they were. 6d
DogMomIrene @Suet624 I haven‘t. I avoid Substack. I had too many subscriptions & wasn‘t reading them. Just too overwhelming. But I‘m not surprised that people don‘t understand a whole bunch of what Trump will implement. The public education system in the US has been gutted, too many people can‘t make ends meet even though they‘re working multiple jobs, and there‘s a general distrust of govt so they‘re ripe for Trump to enrage all over again. Change takes time 6d
Suet624 There is also a concerted effort to misinform. We were done in by those who refuse to accept that you need to do your own research and stop blaming 'the libs' for being educated. (There's so much more to say of course for the reasons we're here now...) 6d
DogMomIrene @Suet624 Yes! Exactly. So many problems that all take time to solve. And compromise. Moving the mark toward the light and progress. Not easy. Not quick. And demonizing education just aggravates me. More really, but public forum. I‘ll keep my language in check. So much to say! Indeed! 6d

Happy Friday! Finished the last 1:10:00 of the tagged book to kick off #36by36. I‘m glad I read this rec. I related to it so much. If you‘re a fellow chronic overthinker, this book will make you feel less crazy.

Going to try to even out my reading by format Print/Kindle/Audio, but we will see how it goes, as I‘m a mood reader through and through 😅 #10BeforeTheEnd #NFN #ReadAway2024

ChaoticMissAdventures ✅ over thinkers unite! I need to add this to my list! 7d

The last two days I listened to the Cybersecurity Daily podcast. There was some interesting stuff about cybersecurity and the election.

Today I started the tagged book which is full of valuable but infuriating information. Today‘s learning/deep thought was about the Covid-19 pandemic and the response which essentially decided who deserves health.

I didn‘t think I needed to be reminded of how brutal oil companies in its pursuit of profit can be so incredibly cruel to a people and their land, health, and culture, but dang😡 And missionaries aren‘t looking so good either. #NFN
