#Winner

From the judges' comments: “New York City is home to more than 700 languages — ‘the most linguistically diverse city in the history of the world‘ – and by examining them Perlin opens out new ways of thinking about the exuberant variety of these aspects of the urban soundscape, which we might otherwise take for granted or ignore."

Ruthiella Sounds fascinating! 1mo
squirrelbrain I picked this up on our recent York bookshop crawl, (do you recall @micheleinphilly, in Waterstones?) but put it back down, of course. 🤨 I may just order it anyway. 1mo
charl08 @Ruthiella agreed. @squirrelbrain I was going to buy it and then realised I have two previous winners still in the TBR pile... 1mo

Instantly hooked. This book was just too quirky to let go of. Who knew a story that takes place almost exclusively inside an apartment building (with the exception of an act of “Deliberate Exposure”) could be so exciting.

I love Emma Lord‘s books, she‘s definitely an auto read for me. And the fun thing is now my 16 year old loves them too, so we can share. This one was an also set in New York City, poignant and meaningful and a mixture of happy and sad. Probably not my most favorite of hers but still a really great read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

#TopReads2024 continues with my September pick
??????????????
“The World of Tomorrow” was such a great read! I honestly enjoyed all the books I read this month, but this was one I went into with zero expectations and I loved it!! I bought it for 50¢ at a library‘s book sale and halfway through I realized I would‘ve gladly paid full price for it and still would love it. Highly recommend!!

The Interrupters opened for Sum 41 Friday and I liked it! Love being exposed to new to me music which is why I love #TuesdayTunes. Here are a couple songs. The first Take Back the Power for tonight‘s debate and the second Kiss the Ground about gratitude.

@TieDyeDude

bthegood loved these - thanks 🙂 2mo
TieDyeDude I noticed it a lot at shows in Philadelphia: the opening band would thank the people who came to the show early to see them. It always seemed weird; if you've bought tickets to see the show, go for the whole show. Sometimes they are just random label-mates, but often the band has chosen them for a reason. Glad you caught a good act 😁 Thanks for sharing, I like those songs. 2mo

It took me a little while to get into it, but that was mostly because I was reading several other books at that time. The Barbizon. It will make you fall in love with historical non fiction, make you want to maintain the beauty and grandeur in historic buildings, and will stir so much gratitude in your heart for places like The Barbizon that have provided a safe space for women to pursue their dreams and create a long lasting golden legacy.

Okay, granted I bought this book for 50¢ from a library book sale, perhaps my expectations going in were not high. However, this book was so much fun, I loved it!! I loved reading about the Dempsey brothers (and Francis‘ FC Plan ?) & the strength of the female characters was wonderful (I want a Rosemary, Anisette and Lorena in my life to provide advice lol). Highly recommend for fans of sweeping stories that grab a hold of you and don‘t let go!
