Mehso-so

This became available Dec 27th just as I wanted something light to read.

It's wartime England and the Redpath's invited their elderly, eccentric rich uncle to spend the holiday in their village, hoping he'll enjoy himself and favor them in his will. Instead he turns up dead the morning after their party. Most of the plot is a mess of confusion as the police try to determine how he died and every Redpath's story is contradictory.

It was fine.

Mehso-so

A birding group from the US travels to Iceland but disaster strikes and one of their main members (who dislikes puffins by the way!!) is found dead. The sleuth is a zookeeper from California who is in the country to pick up a polar bear and other animals for their northern climes exhibit.

Loved the animals and Iceland, but didn‘t really care about any of the characters. This is book four in the series so that may have something to do with it

Bookwomble Who dislikes puffins? 🤨🤷‍♂️ 2w
julieclair @Bookwomble I know, right? Puffins are the cutest thing ever! 2w
julieclair @mhillis Have you read any of the others in the series? I have not. 2w
mhillis @julieclair No I haven‘t either 2w

julieclair Any book involving puffins has to be fun. 😉 3w
mhillis @julieclair Yes I choose it solely based on the puffin 😆 3w
julieclair Sounds perfectly logical to me. 😉 2w

The tagged conveniently became available just now a week or so after Christmas...

Hopefully I'll read at least some of the books pictured for #Bookspinbingo.

Pickpick

The somber cover does not match this somewhat madcap and irreverent mystery. It is entertaining, but rather convoluted in the end, with lots of characters, all keeping secrets and scheming.

I enjoyed this one, but it wasn‘t a stand-out in the series. Helma‘s longtime (and unlikely) best friend Ruth is at the center with the uproar caused by her new series of paintings “Ruth Revealed.” Someone thought she revealed too much - and destroyed two of the pieces.

A fitting end to the series! This was the first mystery series I‘ve read that had an ending - well I guess Marple and Poirot did?
