A wonderful collection of Trans and Nonbinary comics. Beautiful illustrations throughout the book.

This one is for everyone who grew up reading Tamora Pierce—but especially for the generation after. In Lorel, we have a courageous and tender-hearted transfemme lead disguising herself and going after her dream of joining an order of witches. The characters, world-building, and magic were wonderful—but I expected more depth and complexity from a bildungsroman marketed to adults vs a YA novel. Maybe the sequel will bring more, I‘ll be waiting!
LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOVE IT! Recognizing and accepting queer identity in the face of contentious cultural norms, fleshing out immigrant experience so that while the unique and possibly painful experience of immigration is not ignored, it doesn't try to be a monolith or fall into tropes, doesn't need to form the backbone of the story, interweaving fairy tales, 1/?
From his mid/late 30s Young looks back on his relationships as a young-ish gay man in Seoul.
Rather rambling narrative that frequently left me waiting for something to happen but even when it did, it didn't make much impact and was referred to so obliquely that it took me a while to realise what he meant.
No idea why it was longlisted for the International Booker.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Totally fine and nothing special. Book about Perl Jam told by a music critic and without new interviews or perspectives of the band. I wanted something that didn‘t ask much of me and this fit the bill. If you‘re into music biographies and/or Pearl Jam, it‘s worth a look.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I liked this, although maybe a bit less than others here. Interesting story of two women, or a woman and a family in the aftermath of post-WWII Netherlands. The subject and twist were interesting and the book was well written. I found the resolution of the main relationship not believable, which left me a little less enthusiastic than I might have been otherwise. #WPF25
