I‘m nearing the end of my reread of the Little House series.

Much of my enjoyment has been discovering that I somehow seem to empathize with the adults now (and that I can‘t stop questioning the lifestyle choices they were happy to live with). 😆

Itchyfeetreader I am not sure I read all of these in the end but love the revisiting. 6mo
Ruthiella I‘ve only re-read Little House in the Big Woods as an adult, but I definitely noticed and empathize with different things as a grown up! 6mo
Tamra Brings a smile to my face. ☺️ Such comforting memories. 6mo

Aimeesue I did a complete re-read a couple years ago. Farmer Boy is now my favorite, because yeah, there were some shady goings-on, there Pa. I also read a bio at the same time 6mo
AlaMich I had that same edition box set. 6mo
Suet624 Being a grownup on the prairie was not easy! 😂😂 6mo
LeahBergen @Itchyfeetreader I thoroughly enjoyed it! 6mo
LeahBergen @Ruthiella It‘s been eye-opening to say the least. 😆 6mo
LeahBergen @Tamra And now you have your own set again! 👏 6mo
LeahBergen @Aimeesue I loved Farmer Boy this time around! My favourite when I was really young was On the Banks of Plum Creek, most likely because it was the first one I read and I was the same age as Laura in the book. I‘m going to read that bio soon, too. 6mo
LeahBergen @AlaMich Lucky you! I got them all individually for birthdays and Christmas. 😆 6mo
LeahBergen @Suet624 Yeah, I definitely wouldn‘t make it as a pioneer girl. 😆 6mo
kspenmoll What fun to reread this series. I adored these books & wrote stories modeled on the family‘s adventures. 6mo
LeahBergen @kspenmoll Did you really?? Early “fan fiction”! 🥰 6mo

I‘ve been shamefully avoiding all book club reads since I got back from my summer travels and reading all the little books I picked up in various Laura Ingalls Wilder museums instead.

This has now lead me to rereading the entire series in order, which I don‘t think I‘ve done since my tween years. 😆😆

Tamra 😍 I loved them as a young girl. My grandmother (teacher from SD) supplied me with the whole set one by one. Great memories! 7mo
jlhammar Fun! I‘m going to have to treat myself to a reread of the series one of these years. I still have my old, well-loved copies (look like yours). Did you read this biography yet? I thought it was excellent 7mo
jlhammar Oh, and I just remembered this novel—really enjoyed it (you might too) 7mo

LeahBergen @Tamra @jlhammar These are indeed my childhood copies and like @Tamra , I received them one by one for birthdays and Christmases. 😆 They are inscribed to me from my Mom, too. 🥰 7mo
LeahBergen @jlhammar I have both of those waiting on my shelves (of course 😆). 7mo
Hooked_on_books It‘s like your own personal LIW phd! 7mo
LeahBergen @Ruthiella Good to hear! I should probably get that off the shelves soon. 7mo
rubyslippersreads @LeahBergen Those inscribed books are the most precious. ❤️ (edited) 7mo
LeahBergen @rubyslippersreads They really are! 7mo
TrishB Oh what a lovely collection ♥️ 7mo
sarahbarnes How was the reread as an adult? I loved those books so much in my youth. 7mo
LeahBergen @TrishB Thanks, Trish! I hope you‘ve been having a lovely summer. 😘 7mo
LeahBergen @sarahbarnes I‘m thoroughly enjoying myself (but Little House on the Prairie is a bit problematic now 😬). 7mo
LeahBergen @rubyslippersreads That one is fascinating! 👌 7mo
MaureenMc 😍😍😍Which Wilder museums did you visit? (edited) 7mo
LeahBergen De Smet (Little Town on the Prairie, The Long Winter, etc), Walnut Grove (On the Banks of Plum Creek), Pepin (Little House in the Big Woods), and I whirled through Burr Oak (the place they lived before By the Shores of Silver Lake). My husband and dog were pretty much done. 🤣 @MaureenMc 7mo
Cathythoughts That‘s so lovely 🥰 7mo
MaureenMc @LeahBergen Ooh, that sounds like a great itinerary for my 12 yo and me! 😁 7mo
Suet624 Good call to avoid those pesky book club reads. 6mo

On its own, LIW‘s memoir would be fine and an interesting side note to her fiction books. But this annotated volume knocks it out of the park, adding a richness and depth to her manuscript it would otherwise lack. The amount of work that went into this was enormous and it shows. I loved reading this.

LeahBergen I loved this, too! 10mo
