Aliezah :)
The Only Child | Andrew Pyper
post image

Genre: Horror Fiction
Date started: Sept 28
Date completed: Oct 16
How did I choose this book? This book is a genre I have never explored before and the summary was very well written.
Summary and information below :)

Aliezah :) Summary: Lily Dominick is a forensic psychiatrist at New York and is leading a unique institution. She is evaluating some of the country‘s most dangerous psychotics. The stranger she is evaluating a man that has no name, is accused of many twisted crimes, and it struck her as he is different from the others; in spite of the 2 impossible claims he had made. He says that he was not born but created more than 200 hundred years ago. 5y
Aliezah :) Lily knew her mother died from a bear attack but Lily was never certain that her theory was right. However, this man may have the answers she needs. Now Dr. Dominick must start a journey that may threaten her career, sanity and possible her life.
Who is the protagonist: The protagonist in this book is Dr. Lily Dominick
5y
Aliezah :) Her problem is that she thinks her mother died of a bear attack and the current client she has right now, says that he knows her mother. Now, Lily starts the journey with this man of trying to know what really happened to her mother.
How was the problem resolved: The problem wasn‘t resolved. In fact, Lily found out that the cause of her mother‘s death wasn‘t a bear attack.
5y
Aliezah :) It was Lily. Lily had killed her mother because her mother was trying to keep Lily human while there were other creatures trying to affect Lily. However, she didn't want her mother trying to change her from who she was right then and she decided to shoot her mother in the chest.

I got my bookmail finally from book depository and am happy. It does seem to me to take rather long to deliver though, maybe that is why it is free! #tbr #bookcovers #lovetoread #bookmad

looseleafbooks Great combo! I loved Scythe 7y

Oh no, my friends. I have discovered that serial reader lets you save quotes in fancy ways. Things will never be the same.

Still recovering from the convention weekend but I managed to read this book every day thanks to the app.

Mary Reilly | Valerie Martin
Mehso-so

While I enjoyed the suspense and the playful intertextuality of this novel to the original Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, I find Mary's character to be incredibly flat and self deprecating at times. What should have been a subversive shift from the original narrative which is told by an upper class male (Mr. Utterson) to a servant class maid, is limited by Mary's lack of agency and arc.

This one is done in just over 24 hours. Without giving away too much of this super creepy book, just be careful about who you think the monster in your life really is.....🦇🎃

Only the second book I have ever ordered from the U.K. Started it last night and did not sleep very good. This book is really creeping me out and only on page 56. This author knows his creep factor!😬😲

Jess_Read_This This one sounds both creepy and intriguing!! 7y
BekahB Oohhh I have a couple of books on my shelf by this author but I hadn't heard of this one. Sounds good! 7y
mjdowens I need to look up his other books then. It takes a lot to creep me out. I think it is the humanizing way he wrote about such a horrible creation 7y

I'm not quite finished this one yet, but I am really enjoying it and definitely recommend it. Andrew Pyper always has a way of captivating me with a totally unique and fascinating storyline. The best part is reading a creepy book like this during a thunderstorm :).

#currentread for #riotgrams! This is my first Andrew Pyper book (who is sometimes called the Canadian Stephen King), and it's really good so far! I ordered one of his other books on BookOutlet last night! Edit: This one turned out to be a so-so for me. Mildly disappointed.

I really liked the character of Michael. I was sucked into his journal entries/stories he shared with Lily. I wanted more about him and Mary Shelley, Robert Louis Stevenson and Bram Stoker. Those parts were fantastic! Lily was ok to start with, but I just couldn't feel myself really caring about her-she came across as too empty. Good psychological, supernatural thriller. If you enjoyed Behind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough you will enjoy this one.

readinginthedark I don't usually enjoy thrillers, but this sounds so good! 8y
MariaW Never saw a Frankenstein cover with a painting of Casper David Friedrich. Weird choice, but fits somehow. 8y
