Pickpick

I‘ve had the Jeeves & Wooster books on my list for so long! I finally read this one as my 1923 pick for #192025… and I think my expectations were too high 😆

Don‘t get me wrong—I enjoyed it. It made me laugh, and the banter and the ridiculous situations were great fun. But it‘s more loosely-connected short stories than it is a novel, and so it felt scattered. I kept waiting for an overarching plot rather than isolated episodes. ⤵️

BarbaraJean (Cont‘d) Also, the setting and the Jeeves & Wooster relationship felt so similar to the Lord Peter Wimsey books that I kept wondering when the murder was going to happen. 😂 These are minor criticisms—the problem was more my own expectations than the book itself! I‘m planning on & looking forward to reading more Jeeves & Wooster down the road. 3d
Ruthiella Oh yes. There is never really a plot to speak of. I love these stories because they are so ridiculous. 😂 The TV series with Fry and Laurie is also excellent. 👍 (edited) 3d
AlaMich Yes, these are worth doing on audio, although I think there are a lot of different narrators. 3d
Librarybelle I‘ve yet to read a Jeeves book! 3d

1) Heart concert. They opened with a photo montage of 1 picture for every year since the band‘s inception. 2006 was EM and the boos were strong. MZ, the other douchecanoe featured, also was booed.
2) Bookmail
3) I caved because it makes me happy, Disney Spring from Costco.
4) Litsy! That last stat is strong because of this community and all the ways you have informed my reading and my growth. ⬇️

Deblovestoread 5) Finding companies to support who support my values. So long Starbucks. 7mo
MemoirsForMe I love all of these! 🙌🏻🙌🏻✊🏻✊🏻✌🏻✌🏻 7mo
Aims42 I haven‘t shopped at Target for a whole month and I don‘t miss it one bit. I switched my purchases over to Costco and Walgreens who still support DEI hiring practices 💛🧡🩷 7mo

Mehso-so

I couldn‘t remember which Wodehouse featured Bertie on a millionaire‘s yacht - turns out it‘s this one! Not one I particularly enjoy. Bertie and Jeeves part ways due to Bertie‘s banjolele playing. Bertie is also evicted for the same reason, so he heads to a cottage in the country where he may play in peace. Unfortunately, the country also holds a former fiancée, her steamroller father, Sir Roderick Glossup, and a crazy replacement valet. ⬇️

mabell Of course Jeeves also happens to be in the same part of the country and save the day 😄 14mo
julieclair Too bad it wasn‘t one of the better ones… 14mo
mabell @julieclair I think I‘m just being picky because there are so many that I love 😄 14mo
julieclair I love Jeeves, too! 😎 14mo

#bookreport
Loved Sabriel on audio. Tim Curry narrating!

#weeklyforecast
The Good Soldier is on #serialreader so I know I'll finish it (can't say I'm enjoying, but yay for another #1001books down)
I'm loving Fault Lines so far, so I'm sure I'll finish it, then probably go back to Wild Seed, which I'm also enjoying
For audio, I'll finish Jeeves and start The Phoenix Crown - highly anticipated so 🤞 it lives up to my hopes

emz711 Wait. Sabriel narrated by Tim Curry? Like the fantasy book? 2y
llwheeler @emz711 yep! He was great, and I'm glad I finally got around to reading (listening to) it! 2y

Thanks for the tag, @Texreader !

#MotivationalMonday

1) read, take walks, finish a knitting project, and maybe wash the windows ?
2) tagged + The Love of my Afterlife + a few "dip in" books
3) loyal, stubborn ?

Cupcake12 I like the sound of that week x 2y
julesG @Cupcake12 I spoke too soon. My daughter managed to spill a good cup of dark ramen noodle soup over the sofa, carpet and cushions. Upon my remark that she could at least have added some ketchup her teenage brain short circuited. Ah well. Spring cleaning a bit early this year. Yeah! 😐 2y
Cupcake12 Oh no! Hope it comes out x 2y
julesG @Cupcake12 Most of it has been attacked already. I now have to wait for the carpet shampoo stuff to dry then I can hoover it off and we're done. Cushions are in the wash right now. We have a well-stocked cleaning cupboard thanks to the #ShadowCat's gluten intolerance (although he hasn't given us a hard time in a long while). The only downside, I was looking forward to some reading time. But Stephen Fry kept me company on audio 2y

Bertie is roped into a visit to Deverill Hall, a country house owned by friends of his Aunt Agatha. Once there he finds an over-abundance of aunts, several couples on the outs and himself impersonating Gussie Fink-Nottle. Thankfully Jeeves is there to set things straight and help everyone out of their trouble.

wanderinglynn I love Wodehouse! 2y
AmyK1 @wanderinglynn So do I! I always save them for when I need something lighthearted. 2y
